What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on newly funded projects that investigate the mechanisms underlying rhythmic gene expression in the mouse. Projects include an investigation of the role of rhythmic food intake and of the nutrient-sensing kinase mTOR in circadian biology, and characterization of how circadian transcription factors drive rhythmic transcription. Also, this position will be responsible for conducting research projects, training other lab personnel, maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, writing manuscripts, presenting findings, and contributing to grant proposals. Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Appropriate PhD

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to build a positive work environment and be helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Appropriate PhD degree in Biology or related field with solid training in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and/or basic computational analysis

  • At least one first-authored publication in a good scientific journal

  • Strong interest in circadian biology research and in developing research skills using multidisciplinary approaches

  • Good technical and conceptual knowledge in molecular biology including in the regulation of transcription, RNA processing, and high-throughput sequencing

  • Familiarity with in vivo or in vitro mammalian systems.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work-bench Experiments: Carries out experiments to test the project’s hypotheses. This includes various molecular biology assays like DNA, RNA, and protein extraction from various mammalian samples/tissues, RT-PCR, qPCR, Next-Generation sequencing library generation, Western blot, cloning, in vitro protein expression, etc. Performs mouse work including manipulation of food intake, blood sampling, and tissue collection.

  • Data Analysis and Notebook Reporting: Performs analysis of experimental data including, if appropriate, bioinformatic analysis using a High-Performance Research Computing cluster. Reports experimental design and results in a lab notebook.

  • Participation in Common Lab Duties: Assists with maintaining a clean workspace environment. Trains new lab members on various techniques.

  • Research Dissemination: Contributes to writing manuscripts, grant proposals, and short assays. Presents research data to local, national, and international meetings/conferences.
