Job Description

The Durie Lab at the University of Missouri, Biochemistry Department, is seeking an organized and motivated post-doctoral scientist. The fully funded position will use biochemistry, microbiology, enzyme kinetics, and/or cryo-electron microscopy to define the mechanism of protein translocation across membranes in bacterial pathogenesis. Cells must interface with and adapt to the outside world, and one critical way they achieve this is through the dynamic and specific action of secretion systems that transport molecules in and out of cells. The goal of our research is to integrate biochemical, biophysical, and genetic approaches to understand the structure, regulation, and function of bacterial secretion systems in their physiological contexts. The results of this approach will shed new light on our understanding of the fundamental process of translocation across membrane, a necessary process for all cells, as well as how we think about bacterial pathogenesis. As a new lab, the position will feature lots of interaction and mentorship from Dr. Durie, who is committed to providing all members of the lab with the scientific training and mentorship to help them pursue their career goals.
