A research position is available within the Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (www.umaine.edu/FIRST) at the University of Maine in the area of wireless microwave acoustic sensor technology for use in harsh environment applications. The position emphasizes wireless sensor testing and evaluation including RF communication as well as sensor materials and device fabrication. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in several aspects of design, fabrication, packaging, and testing of wireless surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor technology for detection of temperature, pressure, strain, and/or corrosion in high temperature harsh environments. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $50,000 to $80,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Due to timing, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field, with experience in RF microwave tools and techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD or MSc in the respective areas. Preferred knowledge and familiarity with RF microwave devices including network analyzer measurements, impedance matching techniques, microelectronic device design and fabrication (photolithography, thin film deposition, and other clean room procedures), and materials characterization techniques. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to develop manuscripts and deliver presentations.
