Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Assistant for the Department of Psychology within the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). The position is for a Research Project Assistant in The Hamilton Lab (thehamiltonlab.org) in the Department of Psychology, directed by Dr. Jessica Hamilton. The Hamilton Lab conducts research on adolescent suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviors, with a focus on the risk and protective roles of social media use and sleep. The lab has a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, which the coordinator will contribute to through science communication efforts, community outreach, and mentorship of undergraduate (and high school) students. We are seeking applicants who are organized, creative, excellent at problem-solving, excited to contribute to and build the lab culture, and passionate about conducting research that impacts the community. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to gain research and clinical experience prior to graduate study in clinical psychology or related programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • The position will primarily support a NIMH-funded study using innovative ambulatory methods (ecological momentary assessment, actigraphy, and smartphone sensing) to investigate social media and sleep disruption in adolescent suicide risk.
  • In this position, the coordinator will have the opportunity to engage in every stage of the research process, including initiation and implementation of new research protocols, collecting, managing and analyzing data, as well as overseeing daily laboratory activities and supervising undergraduates.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field (e.g., public health, pre-med) is required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior research experience.
  • The successful candidate will also have strong writing and verbal skills; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and time-management skills with attention to detail; proficiency in managing multiple tasks; and working both independently as well as with a team; proficiency in word processing and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience interfacing with children and adolescents, preferably in clinical settings.
  • Prefers one year of prior research experience is required (including as a volunteer or student), preferably in a psychology lab or other clinical sciences.
  • Experience with data management, statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS), survey development and implementation (e.g., Qualtrics), and coding. Prefers
  • Experience with lab management duties for at least a year which can include experience as a student and be interested in a 2-year commitment for this position.
