If you answered yes to these questions, then you might be the perfect candidate for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position at Michigan Pet Alliance (MPA), a state-wide not for profit professional/trade animal welfare organization, established as a membership organization in 2021 Michigan Pet Alliance. MPA, was founded in 2003 and is recognized as an effective organization throughout the state for providing data, education, training, and technical assistance to Michigan’s 200+ animal shelters and homebased rescue organizations.

As the CEO, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction for the organization, in alignment with the board of directors and the mission and values of Michigan Pet Alliance.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate, foundation, and government donors, as well as securing grants, sponsorships, events, and other revenue streams.
  • Managing the financial health and sustainability of the organization, including developing and overseeing the annual budget, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and maintaining sound fiscal policies and practices.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including board members, staff, volunteers, donors, partners, media, and the community at large.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff, ensuring high-quality program delivery and evaluation, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, preferably in a related field or sector.
  • A demonstrated ability to raise significant funds from various sources and to diversify and grow the organization’s revenue base.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and vision of [Nonprofit Name] and a deep understanding of the issues and challenges facing [the population or cause served by the organization].
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field; an advanced degree or certification in nonprofit management, fundraising, or leadership is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to inspire and motivate others; ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, creativity, adaptability, and accountability.

The CEO will work with a 15-member working board of directors made up of pet advocates from shelters, home-based rescues, spay/neuter clinics, and enthusiasts, along with four working committees. The current position is part-time (20-30 hours per week) with the possibility of full-time when the revenue can meet budget requirements. Must live in Michigan, have a flexible schedule, be able to work from home and to travel to other parts of the state and to Lansing when required. $35-$45 per hour, part-time employee or by contract.
