Job Description

COMMITMENT TO MISSION:

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
To implement the outreach and recruitment function of the college by delivering presentations to high school students in order to generate interest  to visit PTC and to consider enrollment in PTC’s associate, bachelor’s degree, or certificate programsproviding implementation of the recruiting strategies for a seamless and successful entry into the college. This position reflects a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, and an understanding of culturally responsive practices.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Work a territory of assigned high schools in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and West Virginia by personally scheduling and presenting career talks to seniors, juniors, and underclassmen.  The goal at the end of each day of presentations will be to encourage subsequent field trips to PTC.
  • Implement a strategic plan for student recruitment in Computer-Aided drafting, with a particular focus on increasing the amount of veteran, non-traditional, female, and minority students, and incorporating market research, environmental scans, best practices, and the other college strategic plan for a full cycle recruiting process of prospective students.
  • Develop recruiting materials and presentations demonstrating the PTC value and culture with a specific focus on CAD.
  • Recruit students to build capacity in PTC instructional programs that support college enrollment goals.
  • Expand of territory, by maximizing high school exposure and generating interest from community groups, social service organizations, career fairs, etc.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships in the high schools and the community, including proactively engaging with community partners and implementing recruitment programs, to support guided entry into the college.
  • Participate in the recruiting team activities including high school and community event attendance, tours, prospect nurturing, and the Welcome Center.
  • Travel to career fairs, industries, schools, and other organizations to recruit potential students to PTC with emphasis on the CAD program.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, required.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of Veteran resources, as well as those that assist non-traditional and underserved/special populations.(Underserved/special populations refers to individuals with disabilities; those who are economically disadvantaged or come from economically disadvantaged families; single parents, including single pregnant women; out-of-workforce individuals; English learners; homeless individuals; youth who are in or have aged out of the foster care system; and those who are on active duty or are retired members of the armed forces).
  • Ability to use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software (most notably work with PowerPoint and Keynote).
  • Three years of related work experience in the fields of public speaking, public relations, sales, or communications.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Computer-Aided Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and/or Architectural Engineering Technology
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of best practices and strategies for student recruitment and prospective student management.
  • Comfort and experience in speaking to a variety of audiences while following a pre-established script 
  • Understanding, or an ability to learn, Pittsburgh Technical College’s academic and certificate programs, including associated careers and job paths.
  • Application of information technology as it applies to recruitment management (CRM).
  • Ability to effectively use organizational and planning skills, including working on multiple projects.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Speaking publicly in clear and persuasive manner.
  • Ability and willingness to connect with Veteran and underserved populations.
ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:
Positive individual that is proactive in promoting Pittsburgh Technical College with an emphasis on PTC’s CAD program, veteran, and underserved/special populations.
 
WORK SCHEDULE:
Maintain an established work schedule, including some evenings and weekends as needed.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
  • Equipment used includes laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, projector, phone, and other general equipment necessary for delivering presentations.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
  • Work within PTC generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.  Work within high schools and related community events generally performed in similar conditions with occasional outdoor events required as well.

  • Automobile insurance
  • Personal vehicle that can be used for work-related travel
  • Must pass Act 153 background checks, FBI Fingerprinting and motor vehicle background check prior to starting position.
  • Must provide three (3) professional references
  • This position is partially funded by a National Science Foundation grant and is contingent upon funding. The current grant is viable until 7/31/2025.
