Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology or another relevant field. Experience in designing and conducting research in biochemistry and redox biology. 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Expertise in fundamental research methods of redox biology or cellular and molecular biology. Research experience focused on transgenic mouse colony management, breeding, genotyping. Hematopoietic cell flow cytometry characterization, UV-.  Molecular biology approaches including western blot, rtPCR and DNA, RNA, and proteins extraction, transfection. Cell and tissue culture, cytotoxicity assay, synergy assay. Proficiency in data and project management. Experience with grant writing and management.  

Brief Description of Duties: 
The Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University seeks a full-time (100%) Postdoctoral Associate who will contribute to research projects (PI: Dr. Wadie Bahou ) and help advance the PI’s research-based efforts.  The applicant will have the opportunity to split time with an early biotechnology startup and to transition into the biosciences industry.

This Postdoctoral Associate position involves design of experiments, execution of experiments, data analysis, record keeping, co-designing new studies, preparing IACUC protocols, etc. Reporting directly to Dr. Wadie Bahou and working collaboratively with multiple other faculty and staff team members across the disciplines of biotechnology and the Cancer Center.  The Postdoctoral Associate will have excellent writing and presentation skills in English.  Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team is essential.  The successful incumbent will be required to communicate research results to both expert and non-expert audiences.  Other duties as assigned, which may include attending and presenting work at scientific conferences, preparing publications, and collaborating on grant proposals.

  • Within predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research in the field of redox biology relevant to hematopoiesis and cancer biology, including conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data in collaboration with faculty and staff from multiple health-related disciplines.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. Assist in grant writing and co-designing new studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
