Compensation: Starting salary is based on rank and applicable steps for related work experience as per the Santa Fe College Salary Schedule.  Promotional placement is not limited to the posted salary range maximum.  Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.


The Department of Fine Arts at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month  Assistant Professor of Music to promote and encourage student success through quality instruction beginning Fall 2020.

Under supervision of the Fine Arts Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Music will develop, prepare, and teach courses that may include general education music courses, lower-division theory, keyboard, and listening skills courses for majors, and instrumental ensemble courses. At this time, the college is particularly seeking candidates interested in conducting wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and other student groups and combos. At times, this position may also function as lead instructor, collaborating with the Chair to help plan and coordinate a growing music program, and to balance general education, courses for majors, ensembles, and applied instruction. Full-time faculty have a nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring; teaching opportunities beyond contractual obligations, including during the summer, may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Conduct instrumental ensembles for up to (8) eight performances a year, including collaborations on dance and musical theatre performances.

  • Fulfill the mission of the Fine Arts Department, which includes quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, student learning and success, annual production of public performances, and faculty productivity.

  • Plan, organize and teach general education music classes for non-majors, as well as prerequisite courses for music majors, and performance-oriented courses. 

  • Collaborate with other department and college staff to recruit students to the SF Music Program and to advise and coach music majors and scholarship students interested in transfer to the university level; serve as liaison to university-level programs.

  • Collaborate with department chair to assist with development of the music course schedule, new curricula and performance calendar.

  • Assist in implementing college, department, and discipline policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with college mission, goals, and strategic objectives.

  • Participate in performances, committee work, and other service as assigned.

Required: Master’s degree in Music or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in music.

Additional Requirements:  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: A terminal MFA or doctoral degree in music. Experience in instrumental ensemble instruction and performance.
