Summary
Good Samaritan has served the needs of the underserved and underprivileged in Ottawa County since 1969. Throughout our long history and with deep ties to our community, we have effectively partnered and collaborated with businesses, local governments, faith-based organizations, and other nonprofits to provide viable solutions to some of our region’s most basic and fundamental needs. Today, Good Samaritan is a team of people working toward a vision of a healthy, engaged, and compassionate community by ending homelessness and poverty in Ottawa County. We walk empathetically alongside one another in a way that serves our neighbors with the hands and feet of Christ.

Position
Reporting to and partnering with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads and monitors the strategic direction of the organization, oversees daily agency operations, identifies, and secures funding opportunities, engages in relevant community conversations, manages the organization’s multi-million-dollar operating budget, and provides inspirational leadership and support to the professional staff at Good Samaritan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Organization and Program Leadership
1. Be a highly effective vision caster, both in uniting staff in the work to be done and in engaging more in the community to participate.

2. Provide strategic direction and leadership to all programs, services and activities to ensure that strategic objectives are met. Establish current and long-range goals, objectives, plans and policies, subject to approval by the Board of Directors, and review operating results compared to them.
3. Recognize, anticipate and determine appropriate response to community needs in conjunction
with leadership staff and the Board of Directors. Develop strategic partnerships to achieve goals and objectives of GSM
4. Conduct searches and appoint staff for leadership positions. Develop these leaders by providing direction, development and growth opportunities
5. Establish and maintain an effective system of communications throughout the organization.
6. Work together with the leadership staff to direct the preparation of an annual budget to be approved by the Board of Directors.
7. Approve expenditures that are allocated in established budget.

Community Relations
1. Be the face of Good Samaritan with community partners and be part of community collaborations.
2. Create and participate in public speaking opportunities to share the vision and work of Good Samaritan.

Board Support and Development
1. Help board president plan agendas and develop background materials for meetings of the Board of Directors.
2. Assist with new board member recruitment and orientation.
3. Assist with board development activities.
4. Assure timely and relevant communication with the board.

Fund Development and Advancement
1. Lead the staff and Board in the identification, solicitation and nurture of major donors, including individuals, businesses, foundations, grants and churches.
2. Ensure the development of an annual campaign designed to solicit contributions from individuals, churches and businesses.
3. Seek sources of grant funding and oversee grant applications to secure funding.
4. Oversee communication to keep contributors and community knowledgeable about GSM and its services.

Staff Supervisory Responsibilities
1. Lead the Leadership Team consisting of the Director of Housing Services, Director of Finance & Administration, Director of Communications & Marketing, Director of Property Management, Director of Supportive Services, and other direct reports as may be appointed from time to time.
2. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
3. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor or above degree in social work, public administration, or related field with five years’ experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred, including program management skills, supervising staff and working with a board of directors. Experience working with other nonprofit, social service and community agencies. Working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management.

LEADERSHIP ABILITY

Ability to lead a staff of professional employees, with the ability to provide vision and motivate staff. Demonstrated ability to identify staff strengths and development needs and to provide appropriate development opportunities. Ability to delegate effectively. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding staff and organization matters. Must operate with integrity in all situations.

SPIRITUAL MATURITY

The Executive Director must possess a Christian faith which finds its expression in social justice and love for people who are in need and concern for helping the community. Must be faithfully involved in a church community.

FUND DEVELOPMENT SKILLS

Demonstrated ability and willingness to personally solicit contributions from businesses, individuals and churches. Ability to identify new sources of funding and to actively solicit these funds. Ability to build relationships with foundations and other potential sources of revenue.

CULTURAL AND INTERPERSONAL COMPETENCE

Demonstrated commitment, and ability, to work with racially and ethnically diverse groups of people. Ability to relate well to a variety people.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write effectively using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to develop plans to move the organization forward.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
