Postdoctoral Associate - Part-time

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): 
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Medicine, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field. Experience in infectious disease, epidemiology, and/or working with COVID-19.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in data analysis and data cleaning. Experience in grant and manuscript writing. Supervisory or experience training others. Working knowledge of Qualtrics, Excel, and/or Access. 

Brief Description of Job Duties:
To understand the pathogenesis of the COVID-19 long syndrome. The Postdoctoral Associate's role is to work closely with Dr. Benjamin Luft and assume primary responsibility in the implementation, coordination, and supervision of research-based assessments and research-related data collection in a clinical setting. They will be working on a range of projects (such as the COVID-19 long-term symptom study); hence, they need to be organized and goal oriented. The incumbent must be able to quickly learn and adapt to new computerized data collection, coordination, and organization tools. Excellent quantitative, technical, analytic, and applied research skills are required. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including scientific writing are required.

The Post-Doc will perform the following duties:

Data Management and Data Collection:
Collect, prepare, and analyze research data; keep a detailed record summarizing and documenting research data; keep and refine a computer database of research data; summarize and display data for presentation at conferences and manuscript writing; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.

Inform World Trade Center responders' diagnostic plans and research, including gathering, cleaning, and reviewing mental and physical health data; categorizing disease symptoms and progression, and determining status of disease (e.g., mild, moderate, severe); coordinating relevant follow-up screening, scanning, and research participation with patients, healthcare providers, specialists, and investigators; and performing statistical analyses to summarize and write up the findings.

Coordinate between clinical and research personnel to establish and update procedures for administering research-based evaluations that correspond to clinical processes in collaboration with the Research Program Manager and investigators.

Examine each participant's medical record carefully to gather all necessary clinical information on their diagnosis, symptomatology, and treatments; and compare this to the complexity of health conditions they've been diagnosed with before and after other disease (e.g., COVID-19) to gain a better understanding of the impact associated with their comorbidities.

Manuscript and Grant Preparation:
Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations including attending/presenting at Quarterly Research PI Meetings and Scientific conferences.  Coordinate and/or assist in grant writing. 

Supervision:
Supervise undergraduate students, graduate students, and other full-time Research Program Coordinators as they work on research projects to guarantee accuracy with data entry, case classification, and the collection of Release of Information (ROIs).

IRB:
Prepare and submit necessary IRB documents and amendments. After approval, guarantee and implementation of practices required by the IRB.

Special Notes: 

*The incumbent must be willing to work and travel between the Mineola and Commack clinic locations. Occasional Evenings and Saturdays will be required.  

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
