Job Description:

A highly motivated individual is sought to join the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This individual will primarily support an ongoing effort focused on the study of Human Leukocyte Antigens associated with autoimmune diseases including Sjogren’s disease and Type I Diabetes. Additionally, the individual is expected to work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator to coordinate all project activities, including but not limited to conference talks, data collection and analysis, manuscript and report preparation, meeting participation, use processes to measure project performance and progress, and play a significant role in proposal preparation and submission.  They are also expected to assist in managing and supervising both graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral associates. There will be faculty duties associated with this position including but not limited to meetings, committees etc.

Expected Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

Successful candidates must have a PhD or medical degree, with at least 3 years of experience in crystallography and structure-based drug discovery. Candidates must have extensive experience expressing HLA molecules, purifying peptide/HLA/drug complexes, establishing crystallization trials of HLA complexes, optimizing crystallization conditions, cryopreservation of HLA protein crystals, reducing X-ray data, phasing by molecular replacement, structural refinement, validating HLA complex structures, depositing crystal structures and X-ray data to the Protein Data Bank, molecular docking, generation of molecular graphics. The candidate must have a solid publication history and strong verbal and written communications skills in English.  It is expected that the individual will be highly motivated and can work independently and be part of a highly diverse research group. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have experience screening drug candidates for their abilities to bind protein targets involved in cancer, autoimmunity, infectious disease, and neurological disorders. Applicants with extensive experience depositing crystal structures to the Protein Data Bank will be preferred (eg., HLA complexes, and proteins involved in cancer, autoimmunity, infectious disease, and neurological disorders). Experience with software packages such as PHENIX, COOT and PyMOL is preferred.
