The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the ACR during times of exciting change and transformation in the practice of radiology. The CEO will report to the Board of Chancellors and guide the overall management and leadership of the College. They will work closely with the Board, the Council Steering Committee, ACR membership and ACR staff to develop and implement the ACR’s strategic vision and plan, as well as its policies, programs and priorities that advance the interests of the organization and its membership.

The CEO will play a critical role creating strategic innovations to expand the reach of the College, which is facing changing business environments and practice models. They will capture insights and adapt to the matrixed forces impacting radiology and work closely with the Board, Council Steering Committee, Council, Chapter leaders, and ACR staff to implement Council and Board policy actions to advance the profession. The CEO will be responsible for the ongoing development and management of a wide variety of programs and activities supporting Council determined policies and Board directives.

The CEO will also act as the chief staff external spokesperson and ambassador for the organization and the profession. They will enhance and further develop the ACR’s relationships with constituencies and stakeholders. Examples of important organizational relationships include the American Medical Association and Council of Medical Specialty Societies. They will actively lead advocacy efforts before Congress, the Administration - particularly the Department of Health and Human Services - and with other relevant entities. They will represent the College’s membership in the external market and work to enhance a strong image of radiology’s central role in health care.

The CEO will also oversee and manage the ACR organization and staff. They will ensure its effectiveness and productivity by executing programs and initiatives with sound financial performance. They will demonstrate strong accountability for results utilizing a cohesive leadership team and staff that is adaptable and flexible to changing needs of the membership and in the marketplace. The CEO will lead and manage change effectively to ensure optimal organization performance and stewardship.

Candidates must be familiar with the clinical, research, educational, health policy, political environment, and economic domains specific to the specialties of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine/Molecular Imaging and Medical Physics. They should also understand the importance of government relationships, the value of and difference between the diverse types of clinical practice models (e.g., academic, private, corporate, hospital-employed, teleradiology, etc.), the multi-specialty membership and the role of professional associations in healthcare. The CEO must also understand operating within a virtual workplace environment and how to lead and inspire a high-performing team and create a sense of community within the College. The CEO must have superb listening and communication skills. The ACR CEO must be able to navigate and collaborate within these diverse domains, with a strong focus on relationship building and driving collaborations.


Required and Desirable Domain and Work Experience

  • Healthcare industry knowledge/experience required. Sector experience could include:
  • Medical practice and/or clinical research leadership.
  • Association management.
  • Public policy and advocacy expertise.
  • Academic and/or healthcare organizational leadership role(s).
  • Managing/leading the business and operations of larger provider organizations.
  • Domain knowledge specific to the specialties within the field of Radiological sciences and an understanding of the American College of Radiology are required.
  • Radiologist/Physician highly preferred. Advanced degree required for non-radiologist.
  • Management experience running a P&L and leadership role in a comparably sized organization required.
  • Demonstrated success leading innovative strategies in one or more health-related organizations.
  • Experience managing staff and high performing teams in multiple locations and remote working arrangements is required.
  • Experience managing operational process change and improvements are strongly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating strong relationships and building a network of stakeholders within a diverse group of communities required.
  • Experience with healthcare professional associations and government advocacy and relationships is highly desirable
