A Brief Overview
Oversee the operations and clinical services of a mental health urgent care program with the primary responsibility of ensuring the delivery of high-quality and timely mental health crisis services to pediatric patients in need. The position will be responsible for managing staff, coordinating care, implementing policies and procedures, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The Manager of Behavioral Health Urgent Care will collaborate with community partners, promote program development, and ensure effective communication within the organization, and play a critical role in providing immediate support and interventions to individuals experiencing mental health crises or urgent mental health needs. Clinical responsibilities will include assessment of patients' mental health status, determining appropriate interventions, and providing necessary support and referrals. The Behavioral Health Urgent Care will be a fast-paced environment, require collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community partners to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care.

Essential Functions

  • Crisis Assessment: Conduct comprehensive and rapid assessments of patients presenting with urgent mental health concerns, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, severe anxiety, or other urgent mental health issues.
  • Intervention, Support, and Safety Planning: • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services to pediatric patients, utilizing evidence-based practices and therapeutic techniques. • Offer emotional support, active listening, and practical assistance to individuals in distress. • Collaborate with patients to develop safety plans that address immediate risks and support ongoing mental health management. • Involve patients' support systems, such as family members or friends, when appropriate.
  • Documentation, Reporting, Communication, and Budgeting: • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and referrals. • Follow Children's protocols for data entry, progress notes, and reporting requirements. • Facilitate effective communication within the organization, ensuring clear and timely dissemination of information to staff, stakeholders, and external partners. • Prepare reports on program activities, outcomes, and performance metrics for management, funders, and regulatory bodies. • Monitor and manage program budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient resource utilization. • Collaborate with finance and administrative teams to maintain accurate financial records, track expenditures, and optimize financial sustainability.
  • Program Management: • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the mental health urgent care program, including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation. • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. • Develop and implement protocols for crisis response, including triage, assessment, intervention, and disposition. • Collaborate with emergency services and other community stakeholders to ensure coordinated crisis response and follow-up care. • Identify opportunities for program growth and expansion based on community needs and trends in mental health crisis care. • Contribute to grant applications, program proposals, and fundraising efforts to secure resources for program development.
  • Clinical Oversight & Quality Assurance: • Ensure that clinical services align with evidence-based practices and regulatory standards. • Review and monitor assessments, interventions, and treatment plans to ensure quality care. • Provide consultation and guidance to staff on complex cases and crisis management. • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of behavioral health crisis services. • Monitor key performance indicators, collect and analyze data, and implement strategies for continuous improvement. • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and licensing requirements.
  • Advocacy and Education: • Advocate for patients' rights, access to services, and appropriate mental health care. • Conduct educational presentations or workshops to promote mental health awareness and crisis intervention strategies within the community. • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, such as hospitals, emergency services, law enforcement agencies, and mental health organizations. • Coordinate care and referrals to promote a seamless continuum of services for individuals in crisis.
  • Referrals and Resource Coordination: Identify appropriate community resources, mental health services, and treatment options for patients. Facilitate referrals to ensure individuals receive continued care and follow-up after crisis intervention.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to coordinate care and develop treatment plans for clients. Provide consultation and guidance to team members on mental health crisis interventions.
  • Staff Supervision and Development: Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals and support staff. Provide ongoing supervision, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities. Self-Care and Professional Development: Engage in self-care practices to maintain personal well-being and prevent burnout. Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities to stay informed about emerging trends, research, and best practices in mental health crisis intervention.


Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Social Work Required

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Previous experience working in a mental health crisis intervention or urgent care setting Required and
  • 1-3 years Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention models, mental health assessment, and evidence-based interventions. (High proficiency)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in mental health care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with patients, families, staff, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and manage crisis situations calmly and professionally. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with community resources and referral processes for mental health services.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping, adhering to confidentiality and privacy regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build partnerships with external organizations.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in program management, including staff supervision, budgeting, and performance evaluation.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner, as required by the state Upon Hire Required
