The Campus and the University System: Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell (ENMU-Roswell) is a branch community college of Eastern New Mexico University. The campus recently completed a 2019-2024 strategic plan and a 2020-2025 campus facility master plan. As a comprehensive community college, ENMU-Roswell is a Hispanic Serving Institution and has a diverse student population reflective of the community it serves.

Reports to: The Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs (hereafter the Vice President) reports to the President of the ENMU-Roswell campus.

The Position: Reporting directly to the college president, the Vice President serves as the chief academic officer and chief student affairs officer. This position has the overall responsibility for administering academic and student affairs programs. This is an opportunity for an innovative leader to unite campus departments in a collaborative manner to promote overall student success.

ENMU-Roswell is scheduled to begin a strategic enrollment management consultative process in August 2020. The person selected for this position will lead these planning efforts with a strategic goal of improving campus operations to better meet student and community needs. The ability to work collegially across the institution is critical to the success of this leadership role. The person selected for this position will work closely with senior administrators, faculty, and staff on strategic priorities. This positions oversees all aspects of academic affairs and student affairs to include: supervising three Academic Affairs Assistant Vice Presidents and one Student Affairs Assistant Vice President, academic instruction, workforce development and community education, special services, distance learning, learning resource center, TRIO student outreach, recruiting, enrollment management, one stop service center, admissions, scholarships, financial aid, registrar's office, testing services, and adult education. This position has seven direct reports: three Academic Affairs Assistant Vice Presidents, one Student Affairs Assistant Vice President, an Executive Assistant, Director of Special Services, and the Distance Learning Director.

Additionally, the successful candidate will possess highly refined skills in problem-solving, planning, communications, and human relations combined with the confidence to implement initiatives and accept responsibility for outcomes.

Specific Description: The Vice President works closely with campus leaders in all significant planning, policy and decision-making actions, including community, legislative, governmental, and accreditation matters. Coordination and collaborative efforts with all members of the institution's senior administration regarding matters related to student success is an essential feature of the position. This Vice President is a member of the president's core staff. This position assumes a primary role in interpreting, analyzing, and communicating complex information and data, including information from the New Mexico Higher Education Department, New Mexico Legislature, Federal Department of Education, and Higher Learning Commission. The Vice President provides information in a clear and informative manner. As a senior campus leader, the vice president is responsible for conceptualizing, developing, recommending, and implementing the college's strategic plan and its priorities. The Vice President participates in long-range and comprehensive planning and collaborates with other senior leaders to provide guidance to the President on management issues across all administrative units of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities: Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading academic affairs and student affairs functions

  • Development and implementation of strategic enrollment management planning

  • Oversight of the Academic Catalog and the campus academic schedule

  • Experience with and knowledge of regional and national accreditation: ensures campus operations meet established accreditation standards

  • Annual budget development and financial oversight for assigned campus areas

  • Overall responsibility for curriculum development

  • Leads the preparation, scheduling, and evaluation of academic programs and classes

  • Facilitates faculty and staff evaluation processes to include faculty tenure

  • Long term forecasts of academic and student support programs

  • Actively supports the college's shared governance components, activities, and other collaborative processes

  • Assists in implementing the college's strategic plan priorities

  • Participates in branch community college and ENMU system collaborations

  • Manages the continued evaluation and improvement of assigned campus functions

  • Represents the college on various committees, as well as to community groups, professional organizations, other colleges, universities, state agencies, and K-12 schools

  • Analyzes pertinent educational and financial laws, legislation, policies, regulations and procedures to determine impact on the college and reporting strategies

  • Understanding of the Hispanic Serving Institution designation and its significance for institutional practices

  • Analyzes, interprets, and monitors the financial condition of the college's operations; recommends changes and strategies to ensure financial stability and good financial health

  • Represents the campus at Community College Board and Board of Regents meetings

  • Assumes all other reasonable professional duties as assigned by the President


  • A minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in an academic discipline, education, public administration, leadership, or closely related field

  • Higher education experience as an vice president, assistant vice president, dean, or director

  • Experience with higher education regional and national accreditation processes

  • Ability to develop and analyze operating budgets

  • Ability to work with multiple constituencies with diverse backgrounds, cultural heritages, ethnicities and abilities

  • Experience implementing academic affairs and student affairs practices that are responsive to student and community needs

  • Collegiate level teaching experience

  • Demonstrated ability to develop campus and community partnerships to advance the college's vision and mission

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills


  • Doctoral degree in academic discipline, education, public administration, leadership, or closely related field

  • Three years of higher education supervisory experience as an vice president, assistant vice president, dean, or director leading and directing faculty and staff

  • Two years of collegiate level teaching

  • Community college experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage academic and student conduct investigations

  • Experience in managing large operational budgets

  • Understanding of student enrollment trends and demographic statistics of the community, as well as trends in academic, vocational, adult and community education

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and attend meetings.
