Position Overview | This is a non-tenure-track research faculty position for a senior scientist with a doctoral degree and at least four years of post-doctoral experience. Qualified applicants must be neuroscientists with expertise and experience related to the use of rodent models to study the molecular and cellular basis of behavior and cognition. The research assistant professor will be required to independently manage and conduct experiments and publish findings related to a larger research program being supported in the Department of Biomedical Sciences Discovery and Technology Accelerator. Additional duties required of the research assistant professor will include extramural grant submissions, project management, development of curricular materials related to ongoing research assignments, and training of laboratory staff and students in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. |
Duties and Responsibilities | The applicant will be expected to independently design, implement, and manage experiments, analyze and interpret data, and present and publish findings related to the molecular and cellular basis of mammalian behavior and cognition. The applicant will be expected to perform experiments involving rodent surgery and behavior, creating and utilizing cell cultures, microscopy, in vivo measures of neural activity, and similar procedures. The applicant will be expected to write and submit grant proposals to support his/her future work. In addition, the applicant will be expected to complete the below activities: |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Ph.D. in neuroscience (or a related field) and at least four years of post-doctoral experience is required. The applicant must have technical expertise using cellular and molecular biological procedures including cell culture, PCR, cellular functional assays, microscopy, rodent surgery, rodent behavioral procedures, fiber photometry, and management of rat colonies. |
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | Expertise with statistical analysis of complex data set, Python programming for data extraction and analysis, data management, and the writing of research papers and NIH grants is preferred. Expertise with the neuroscience fields pertaining to behavioral control disorders, mental illness, and related disorders and systems is also preferred. |
