About this Opportunity
The Department of Special Education welcomes applicants for a Post-Doctoral Scholar/Assistant Research Professor. This position is funded by the 23-24 US Department of Education COMPASS Across Settings (CAST) for Integrating School, Home and Community Services and Improving Transition Outcomes for Students with ASD Grant. COMPASS is a school-based consultation intervention that has been tested in several RCTs. For this study, COMPASS will be adapted as a wrap-around intervention to support autistic students, their caregivers, and pre-employment specialists with the same coaching support provided to teachers across home, school and the community. Funding for this grant is through 2027.

Position Function
COMPASS is a school-based consultation intervention that has been tested in several RCTs. For this study, COMPASS will be adapted as a wrap-around intervention to support autistic students, their caregivers, and pre-employment specialists with the same coaching support provided to teachers across home, school and the community.
The first year will involve focus group methodology for the adaptation of COMPASS into CAST with support learning to conduct focus groups, analyze qualitative data, and summarize results for intervention adaptation. The second year will be spent conducting pilot work and later a randomized trial.
The qualified candidate will partner with the PI and research team the adaption of COMPASS for CAST and evaluate it for outcomes. Skills such as developing and testing fidelity measures, implementing CAST and including testing its effectiveness and monitoring coaching and implementation fidelity and student goal attainment outcomes.
This position is grant funded and the individual hired will have an AT WILL assignment.
Minimum Education
PhD in Psychology, Special Education, or related field field.
Minimum Experience
Prior research experience.
Minimum Other
Knowledge about and experience with autism and educational or related settings.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
PhD in Special Education, Educational, School Psychology, Counseling or Clinical Psychology or related area.
Preferred Experience
Demonstrates experience, but not necessarily expertise, in the areas of qualitative or quantitative research (e.g., SPSS) is required.
Preferred Other
Familiarity with data collection and SPSS statistical software platform is desired.

Duties & Responsibilities


Ranking 1
Job Duty
Partner with the PI and research team the adaptation of COMPASS for CAST and evaluate it for outcomes. Develop, test fidelity measures, implement CAST and its effectiveness, and monitor coaching and implementation fidelity and student goal attainment outcomes.
