ABOUT AMANECER:
Since Amanecer Community Counseling’s inception it has been devoted to creating accessible psychiatric and psychological services for people living in populations whos’ needs have been historically neglected. As a part of Amanecer you would be a part of a dynamic team creatively strategizing to provide the absolute best services to clients in such populations.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Development Associate supports the strategic fundraising efforts of Amanecer by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining programs to target donors and prospects, including actively seeking new partners and potential donors. From assisting department leaders in developing fundraising plans to maintaining donor relationships and securing new ones, the Development Associate advances Amanecer’s initiative. They coordinate with various business partners to organize events, increasing brand awareness and funding. The Development Associate is an active listener and engaging storyteller responsible for drafting, editing, and submitting written content for grant proposals and other materials associated with Amanecer, individual donors, and corporate and government grants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepare grant proposals and reports, including, but not limited to, copying and mailing proposals.
2. Assist in planning and organizing agency events, including administrative support for such events.
3. Oversee gift contribution program by sending gift acknowledgments in a timely manner and ensuring compliance with IRS guidelines. Process and manage data entry of gifts in a timely manner.
4. Assist with donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
5. Attend various meetings and community events to represent and network on behalf of Amanecer CCS.
6. Maintain and keep current agency donor database and departmental filing system. Perform database maintenance and clean-up projects to improve data integrity and database performance.
7. Manage mailing lists for various agency projects (ie.: newsletters, events, fundraising, and campaigns)
8. Coordinate media efforts as needed.
9. Prepare media materials for distribution (ie.: copying, filing, mailing, e-mailing, etc.)
10. Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings.
11. Assist with year-end fundraising efforts by preparing donor prospect reports and lists and developing tax receipts.
12. Handle all administrative functions for the development department.
13. Work with Board members, Directors, Managers, and staff to promote fundraising events using flyers, advertisement, and digital marketing outreach.
14. Maintain agency promotional items and inventory. Manage requests for promotional items for outreach events.
15. Assist in the creation and distribution of appeal letters, press releases, email-blasts, and marketing materials.
16. Develop grant proposals and letters of inquiry to foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating Amanecer’s mission and programs to potential funders.
17. Respond to ongoing requests for supplemental information and data from funders. Maintain a calendar/tracking system to ensure timely completion of all proposals and reports.
18. Provide reports to the Executive Director as requested.
19. Other duties as assigned by Executive Director to meet the needs of the department and agency.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or related field.
2. CA Driver License.
3. 2 years or more of proven, successful federal and state grant writing experience.
4. Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
5. Familiarity with electronic donor management systems (i.e., Blackbaud and Canva).
6. Able to craft proposals and reports that are clear, compelling, and persuasive.
7. Able to multitask and manage multiple projects and assignments, often with competing demands.
8. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
9. Able to work collaboratively with a diverse group of board and staff members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Superior professional level writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
2. Excellent organizational skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Effective working independently and on a team.
4. Good technical understanding and can learn new hardware and software quickly.
5. In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, etc.)
6. Efficient internet use, experience with donor research, and knowledge of resources for prospect research and proposal writing.
7. Strong math skills and ability to effectively collaborate with program and finance staff to develop proposal budgets.
8. Ability to analyze community research reports, external community data, and internal program data for use in proposal writing.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
1. Hybrid position – must be willing to work in the office as required.
2. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office, with minimal exposure to risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals. Some positions require field-based services or meeting community partners at their place of business.
3. Must be comfortable and productive writing in an office where there is standard office background noise. Physical effort may also include lifting or moving 20-25 lbs., as well as typing, standing, sitting, bending, and stooping.
4. All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for the clients who are served by our agency. Therefore, each employee must always be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents, and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, verbal aggression, unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions, and inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 per hour
