Job Description

 

To manage and direct simulation activities for TJC Nursing and Health Science Programs in accordance with College policies and procedures. Primary schedule: 8:00 -5:00 with occasional evenings or weekends - as determined by scheduled simulation activities for various NHS programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for development, implementation, evaluation, coordination, and marketing of all programs provided by the Simulation Center utilizing a collaborative team approach.
  • Manage and direct simulation activities for TJC Nursing & Health Science programs as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain a Simulation Center schedule responsive to the needs of multiple programs, sites and semester variations.
  • Collaborate with faculty across healthcare disciplines to develop simulation scenarios to promote student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making.
  • Assist faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate the integration of simulation into curricula to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
  • Facilitate faculty development related to use of simulation.
  • Provide oversight for coordinating and scheduling the use of labs for campus and community groups
  • Supervise and evaluate lab personnel.
  • Maintain and ensure proper function of all simulation mannequins and other simulation equipment, including an inventory of all simulation equipment.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for students (open lab and tutoring) and remediate (class/clinical) using simulation.
  • Utilize metrics to monitor program outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of simulation on student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making. Make recommendations for changes as needed
  • Utilize evidence-based practices in decision making regarding certification/simulation programs
  • Promote evidence-based practice in development of programs, utilization of protocols/standard care statements, and policies/procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment and public relation activities of the school of nursing and health science programs and any special projects related to simulation.
  • Adhere to and implement all regulatory requirements to maintain licensure and accreditation of staff and simulation center (OSHA, TJC, HIPAA, AHA etc.).
  • Maintain current knowledge and pursue continuing education to expand clinical knowledge and expertise of evidence-based practice
  • Serve as resource person to staff, management, community members, within the health profession and other hospitals, participate in community activities related to healthcare.
  • Serve as liaison with area health care facilities regarding policy changes that impact simulation/lab environment.
  • Seek opportunities for increasing revenue in department by developing and marketing new programs as needs are identified.
  • Investigate and submit proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives.
  • Create and deliver professional presentations regarding all aspects of simulation to local, state, and national groups as requested.

  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet and/or database.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

Baccalaureate in a health sciences discipline

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in a health sciences discipline

Certification in Healthcare Simulation

Required Experience

Three years’ professional work experience in healthcare setting

 

 

Preferred Experience

Background in management and business practices.

One-year teaching experience in a clinical education or academic setting.

 

Credentials/Licensures

Currently licensed and/or registered to practice in a degreed health discipline.

 

 

EXPECTATIONS

Travel

  • Must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Reliable transportation required

 

Working Conditions

  • Work is routinely performed in classroom and lab settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time (6 to 8 hours).
