JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


A Research Technologist position is available in the Avian Functional Genomics Laboratory (PI: Dr. Tae Hyun Kim) at The Pennsylvania State University 's Department of Animal Science. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field to join our team and contribute to the study of antiviral factors against the avian influenza virus (AIV) in chickens using CRISPR-based genome editing technologies.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of refunding. 

The primary duties of this position include conducting experiments in the lab, overseeing and managing day-to-day activities related to avian genetics research conducted in the laboratory, at the Poultry Education Research Center (PERC), and at the Pell Laboratory (BSL3). Responsibilities also include overall laboratory management and operation as well as assisting graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who work in the laboratory.

Education and Experience:

This position will be filled as a level 2 and typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 


The successful candidate should be detail-oriented, high organized, and able to work independently with supervision and guidance on lab technique and safety. While previous experience in basic lab techniques is advantageous, training will be provided for all duties and it offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills and foster critical thinking and analytical skills valuable for a career in research.
