Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting data compilation and analysis on equity in marine conservation, blue economy, climate adaptation, and community-based management initiatives in support of research-oriented activities at Duke University Marine Lab.

Work Performed

The successful applicant will work on a joint organizational research project aimed at understanding the procedural equity of coastal initiatives. Case studies will focus on coastal countries in the Global South and climate, blue economy, and conservation initiatives. The successful applicant will mentor and supervise students at the undergraduate and Masters level, and contribute to joint projects with PhD and postdoctoral researchers. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating with a network of collaborators, developing policy-relevant outputs, and dissemination of research. The position will work under the mentorship of Dr. David Gill (Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University), Dr. Jessica Blythe (Brock University), Joachim Claudet (CRNS), and Dr. Gabby Ahmadia (Marine Conservation Science, Oceans, WWF), and offers a unique opportunity to work with renowned fisheries and conservation researchers around the world.

WORK LOCATION

Work takes place in Beaufort, NC but the applicant can work remotely.

TERM

Six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The position offers attractive working conditions and a competitive salary with full benefits.

Required Qualifications at this Level


Education/Training:

Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field. 


Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated person with an interdisciplinary background and training and able to work remotely. They must have experience in content analysis, literature review, and qualitative and quantitative research methods. The candidate should be able to grasp and synthesize insights from a large amount of literature or data (e.g., interview data, existing reports, and policy documents), both qualitative and quantitative, and co-develop research outputs in a large team of academic and non-academic collaborators. The successful candidate must possess outstanding written, digital, and verbal communication skills and be able to translate complex ideas into accessible concepts and language, tailored to different audiences. The candidate must have great organizational skills and attention to detail.
