Human Resources Generalist I

Job Summary:
Provides office support and assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. Carries out responsibilities across several functional areas including faculty and staff recruitment, HRIS, employee relations, training and development, benefits, leave and compensation administration. Performs duties in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as LMC policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains confidentiality while collecting, compiling, and processing employee information.
  • Assists with database management (i.e., establishing and updating information in ERP system - Ellucian Banner - and other databases, including benefits vendor websites). Enters and maintains data related to hires/terminations, employee compensation and benefits, performance evaluations, training and development, and other functional areas as needed.
  • Updates biweekly contracted employee payroll sheets by adding, adjusting or terminating contracts; reconciles biweekly invoice amount to payroll sheet.
  • Creates and performs filing in physical and electronic department and employee files.
  • Assists applicants and employees in recruitment and onboarding duties, including online application process, scheduling interviews, conducting background/reference checks, and assisting HR Business Partners with new hire orientation.
  • Performs benefits and leave of absence administration duties including providing employees with necessary FLMA/leave of absence or benefits change forms and information and tracking return of forms. Contacts employees or benefits vendors with questions or to resolve concerns, assists with annual benefits open enrollment planning and tasks.
  • Submits workers compensation claims.
  • Advises employees regarding HR processes, procedures, and resources.
  • Provides administrative support for special projects, events, and professional development activities.
  • Drafts basic correspondence/email notifications and assists with preparing documents including forms, policies and procedures.
  • Completes employment verifications.
  • Conduct Work Study orientations and schedule onboardings.

  • Other duties as assigned.






Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, HR, assists with executing human resources activities including recruiting, benefits and leave administration, compensation administration, workers compensation, compliance, training and performance management. Performance of duties must comply with Federal, State and local regulations, as well as LMCs Guiding Principles, policies and procedures.

Job Specifications:
Associates degree or willingness to obtain within two years required; Bachelors preferred. Two or more years of office/administrative work experience required; two or more years Human Resources experience required. Excellent Microsoft Office and database skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills. High level of confidentiality required. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced team environment.
