Rappahannock Community College (RCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Established in 1971 as a comprehensive community college, RCC serves the residents of Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King George, King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland counties with quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities.

Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a diverse, rural 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for two teaching positions of Associate Instructor in Nursing to provide instruction across the nursing programs: Practical Nursing (PN) and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN). The Associate Instructor position is a student-focused position responsible for teaching and being involved in activities that directly support student success, such as mentoring and tutoring. The Associate Instructor carries a higher instructional load than regular nine-month faculty but is relieved of most administrative and governance duties. The position is a non-ranked, nine-month restricted position teaching fall and spring semesters with an excellent benefits package. This position begins August 16, 2023 and ends May 15, 2024. On-campus presence is required. Anticipated hiring range for this nine-month appointment is $52,000 to 70,000.
The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working in a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration, and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning along with the ability to teach 33-39 credits with 39-49 contact hours per academic year are required. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.
The general responsibilities of an Associate Instructor are to teach didactic, lab, simulation, and clinical courses in ADN and PN programs. Other duties will include but are not limited to, facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in nursing and trends in community college and nursing education, and teach using a variety of delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Teaching faculty will advise students, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi in collaboration with colleagues, and set up, and maintain lab/classroom environments. The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Head to establish clinical sites for students and mentor adjunct faculty. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments, and teaching concurrently enrolled high school students. Faculty will have a primary office space on one campus and are required to teach on both campuses.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Nursing with consideration for applicants with a baccalaureate in nursing with progress and commitment to complete the MS degree; current unencumbered RN license in Virginia or Compact State licensure; experience in nursing education and proficiency in the use of instructional technology in a pre-licensure professional nursing program. Demonstrated clinical competence in providing direct patient care. Ability to communicate effectively with students and peers. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources. Knowledge in curriculum development and implementation and a thorough knowledge of Virginia Board of nursing requirements for nursing programs and faculty required. Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication, including formal report writing is expected.

Additional Considerations
Certified Nurse Educator designation preferred. Expertise in general medical-surgical or acute medical-surgical, and at least one specialty area including pediatrics, maternity, psychiatric nursing and community-based nursing. Considerable experience teaching in nursing (lecture, labs, simulation and clinical). Experience with the systematic plan of evaluation for external accreditation agencies preferred.
