Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.

 

The Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting a full time Research Assistant or Senior Research Assistant in the laboratory of Marc Oria, PhD to assist with the coordination of laboratory projects or research studies in a particular discipline, and making independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.

 

The Marc Oria Lab is focused on studying the effects of radiation on the central nervous system and the relationship between inflammation, astrogliosis, and neural progenitor cells. The lab's primary objective is to investigate the correlation between glial inflammation and the resistance of tumors to radiation.


Essential Functions
  • Perform experiments and records data according to research protocols.
  • Provide Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) training according to regulations.
  • Maintain optimal protocol and assay accuracy by conducting regular quality and reproducibility checks.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment and Operate laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • May assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Apply research principals for less complex assignments.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments.
  • Assist in training postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. 

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
