Chair, Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis

Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of

Chair of the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis

at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). The mission of the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis is to lead cutting-edge basic research to define the mechanisms that control normal cell growth, genome maintenance, proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Departmental research programs identify aberrations in these processes that drive cancer formation and progression, and discover new targets of cancer vulnerability. We seek an individual with a distinguished record of research and professional accomplishments, strong leadership and managerial skills, and a vision to build a leading research program. Thematic areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis, genome integrity, DNA replication, recombination and repair, cancer genetics and epigenetics, immunology, quantitative sciences, stem cell biology, apoptosis, and autophagy. The department hosts a number of Core Facilities, including the Protein Array and Analysis Core, Advanced Microscopy Core, Recombinant Antibody Production Core, Epigenomics Profiling Core, Flow Cytometry and Cellular Imaging Core and the shared resources of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Services. The chair will cultivate a collaborative environment to maximize the impact of institutional investments and leverage our unique resources as the largest and top-ranking cancer center in the US. The chair will foster an environment that values and prioritizes education and encourages faculty involvement in institutional educational programs for training graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows in interdisciplinary research.

To accomplish the mission of the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis, ideal applicants should meet the following prerequisites:

· Be recognized nationally and internationally in a field of research that focuses on fundamental mechanistic discoveries related broadly to oncology

· Have research objectives that complement and contribute to the research-driven patient care mission of the institution

· Demonstrate administrative competence to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the department, resolving operational issues, and managing financial and human resources

· Have extensive experience in cultivating a nurturing, collegial environment for faculty and trainees

· Display dedication to the continuous support, growth, and well-being of the department, its faculty, and its mission and to exemplify our core values of Caring, Integrity, Discovery, Safety and Stewardship.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree (MD, Ph.D., or equivalent) from an accredited academic institution, have achieved the rank of full professor or comparable position, and have demonstrated considerable ability and meaningful contributions to education and mentoring of trainees and junior faculty. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is committed to building a diverse community of faculty and encourages women and minorities to apply.
