Job Description


The Materials Science Division is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our Emerging Materials Group. This exciting research project focuses on the study of new quantum materials, with a primary emphasis on superconductors. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the exploratory synthesis and crystal growth of various material systems. Additionally, the position involves conducting comprehensive characterizations through structural, optical, magnetic, and electrical property measurements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research in the field of quantum materials, with a specific focus on superconductors. The primary work involves exploratory synthesis and crystal growth of novel materials.
  • Conduct detailed structural, optical, magnetic, and electrical property measurements to analyze and characterize the synthesized materials.
  • Collaborate and work closely with an interdisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, and materials scientists to achieve project objectives.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data and contribute to research publications and presentations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of quantum materials and superconductors.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, with a strong background in the study of quantum materials or superconductors; received within the last 3 years or upcoming year
  • Proven expertise in exploratory synthesis and crystal growth techniques.
  • Experience with structural, optical, magnetic, and electrical property characterization methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct experimental research and analyze complex data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, interdisciplinary environment.
  • A track record of research publications and contributions to the field is desirable.
  • Openness to learning and exploring new material systems and techniques.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
