Job Description Summary:
Plans and coordinates recruitment, training, tracking, and evaluation of translational research trainees and scholars associated with the Frontiers CTSI KL2 and TL1 programs. Supports the KL2 and TL1 principal investigators in advising scholars, developing training experiences, and tracking progress in career development. Works directly with scholars in execution of their training plans and management of their research and training budgets. Coordinates regular reporting program progress to the NIH and the external advisory committee. Supports tracking of scholars and preparation of new grant applications (i.e., renewal of the KL2 and TL1 awards).
This position will have a hybrid work arrangement, working remotely and on campus based on a set schedule. Expected annual starting salary $90,000 - $100,000.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or Master’s or doctoral (PhD or EdD) degree.

Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, plus 5 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in job description OR

  • Master’s or doctoral (PhD or EdD) degree, plus 3 years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in job description.

  • Strong communication as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s or doctoral (PhD or EdD) degree.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in a medical research/academic setting.

  • Experience managing and facilitating educational programs.

  • Experience organizing and maintaining records.

  • Experience making conclusions and recommendations based on research data and findings.

  • Experience creating and distributing Redcap projects.

  • Knowledge of communication principles, media and marketing techniques.

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control procedures.

Skills:

  • Program planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.

  • Able to effectively manage high-volume workload and complex priorities.

  • Self-directed, action oriented, superior attention to detail, strong organizational skills.

Job Duties Outlined:

Comprehensive management of the TL1 program, including, but not limited to:

  • Meet with pre and postdoctoral fellows interested in a research career and provide them with details on potential training opportunities, including opportunities through Frontiers Scholars Club, MS-CR degree program, KL2 program and TL1 program.

  • Recruitment – coordinate efforts across Frontiers institutions to identify potential TL1 applicants.

  • Application – lead efforts to solicit new applications for the TL1 program.

  • Trainee selection – coordinate efforts to review TL1 applications and select best candidates.

  • Trainee tracking – develop and monitor reporting systems to track the progress of current and past trainees.

  • Individualized Development Plans – Maintain copies of trainee’s IDPs.  Support efforts by TL1 leaders to meet with trainees on a regular basis and track their ability to reach critical milestones in research and training.  Assist in troubleshooting problems with mentorship.

  • Frontiers Scholars Club – coordinate and facilitate regular meetings of the Frontiers Scholars Club.

  • Annual reporting – Prepare drafts of RPPR on an annual basis and provide other data on request.

  • NIH onboarding of trainees – complete process for onboarding and offboarding of TL1 trainees in the xTrain system.

  • Liaisons with other TL1 programs – participate in regular meetings with other TL1 programs (both in person and virtually), sharing and adopting best practices.

  • Participate in national monthly CTSA TL1 Director’s conference calls.

  • Meet with junior faculty interested in a research career and provide them with details on potential training opportunities, including opportunities through Frontiers Scholars Club, MS-CR coursework, KL2 program and TL1 program.

  • Recruitment – coordinate efforts across Frontiers institutions to identify potential KL2 applicants.

  • Application – lead efforts to solicit new applications for the KL2 program.

  • Scholar selection – coordinate efforts to review KL2 applications and select best candidates.

  • Scholar tracking – develop and monitor reporting systems to track the progress of current and past scholars.

  • Individualized Development Plans – maintain copies of scholar’s IDPs.  Support efforts by KL2 leaders to meet with scholars on a regular basis and track their ability to reach critical milestones in research and training.  Assist in troubleshooting problems with mentorship.

  • Frontiers Scholars Club – coordinate and facilitate regular meetings of the Frontiers Scholars Club.

  • Annual reporting – prepare drafts of RPPR on a annual basis.

  • NIH onboarding of scholars – complete process for onboarding and offboarding of KL2 scholars in the xTrain system; Work with Frontiers admin team to ensure required approvals are in place and maintained for research involving animals and human subjects.

  • Liaisons with other KL2 programs – participate in regular meetings with other KL2 programs (both in person and virtually), sharing and adopting best practices.

Additional duties, including, but not limited to:

  • Support development of programs to monitor and improve translational research mentorship.

  • Support the development of new/renewal funding proposals for the program.

  • Work with Frontiers CTSI evaluation team on developing, compiling and reporting on outcome metrics for the TL1 and KL2 training programs.

  • Organize and facilitate communication with advisory boards and/or stakeholders, including, but not limited to, annual reports to the NIH and the external advisory committee.

  • Audit relevant sections on the Frontiers CTSI webpage to provide new and revised content to be uploaded by the website administrator.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
