Job Description


The Advanced Energy Systems (AET) directorate at Argonne National Laboratory is looking for candidates for a Human Resources Analyst position.  The HR Analyst would work within a shared services model to provide exceptional service to the AET organization.  This role would report directly to the HR Manager of AET.

 The HR Analyst is responsible for administering the personnel-related activities within the Advanced Energy Systems directorate, providing support to management, staff, and potential hires on personnel policies and procedures. Responsibilities for this position may include processing new and renewal joint appointments; initiate and process postdoctoral hire packages and manages a system for processing and tracking all postdocs’ actions, including extensions.; serves as a point of contact for AET’s student programs, and Argonne Associate process; compile promotion packages; write initial drafts of position descriptions; collect, compile, and prepare HR metrics data and reports from a variety of sources including Workday (Human Resource Information System [HRIS]); submit actions in the Workday HRIS system including extensions, terminations, and move worker assignments; and assist with the annual processes for performance evaluation and merit/bonus review. The selected individual will perform as part of the AET HR team to continue to develop consistent approaches across the directorate. 

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill, and experience in processing highly diversified personnel and education-related appointments, including some experience in the intricacies of hiring foreign nationals and their visas and paperwork involved.

  • Ability to prepare reports of data results and analyze data, as required.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while accurately managing conflicting priorities in order to meet desired results and commitments. 

  • Ability to interact confidently with Division Directors, Line Managers, the HR team and the AET administrative support team to facilitate solutions to presented requests.

  • Ability to listen well and then restate an issue clearly in written or oral communications.

  • Discretion required.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.

  • Ability to adapt to changes in a complex state-of-the-art-computing environment.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Workday HRIS desired.

  • Knowledge in interpreting and implementing Argonne`s Human Resources Policies and Procedures is preferred.

  • Advanced education in the Human Resources discipline and/or certification as an HR Professional is highly desirable.
