Job Description


The Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks well-prepared candidates for a postdoctoral position in quantum computing.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Perform research in quantum algorithms executable on near term intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) devices.
  • Particular focus area will be on quantum error mitigation and error correction techniques
  • Another area of focus will be to convert the quantum circuit model into other quantum computing models such as quantum walks and QAOA
  • The quantum algorithms will be utilizing Argonne’s world-class super computational facilities such as LCRC
  • Execute the developed algorithms on actual quantum hardware such IBMs superconducting based quantum computing machine and neutral atoms based hardware such as the machines built by Quantinium and Cold quanta

Position Requirements

​Required skills and qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline (typically completed within the last 0-3 years, or soon to be completed)
  • Graduate/postgraduate research in quantum error correction and mitigation, quantum information and quantum algorithms for NISQ devices
  • A track record of publishing in reputed international journals
  • Knowledge of programming and experience in languages such as python and quantum libraries such as Qiskit, Qutip and Pennylane

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Quantum Networking and sensing
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research involving computer scientists, mathematicians and physicists
  • Proposal development
  • Ability to work well with other laboratories and universities, supercomputer centers and industry
  • Ability to provide project leadership ands strongcollaborative skills
