Development Manager
Job Description
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Reports to: Development Director
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am – 5pm
Range: $75,000 - $90,000 annually
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
- 3 to 5 years’ experience working in development, public relations, and/or social media, or in a marketing environment
- Experience with email marketing systems (i.e., Constant Contact) and social media platforms
- Content/grant writing background highly desired
- Website/CRM experience a plus
- Strong public speaking and public relations skills
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time-management
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Google Suite and, preferably, Adobe Creative Suite
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently (when appropriate) and as part of a team
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Must possess advanced ability to read, write and understand English equivalent to a college level
- Must positively relate to students, fellow employees, interns, contractors, and business contacts.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the cultures represented in San Joaquin County
- Reliable transportation, valid California Driver License, proof of valid auto insurance, a DMV driving record printout with no more than two (2) minor violations and use own car for travel
- Ability to lift supplies up to 25 lbs. to waist height
- Fingerprint clearance required
- Must pass a physical examination to demonstrate physical, mental and occupational competence to perform assigned tasks under guidance, supervision and direction of the supervisory staff
- Must be 21 years of age or older
Essential Functions:
Development/Fundraising
- Assist Development Director in facilitating the annual Major Gifts Campaign
- Work directly with the CEO on donor stewardship and donor asks
- Track grant process from start to finish, including updating the grant matrix
- Provide strong support for Major Gifts Campaign, Major Gifts Committee, and Fundraising Committee, including attending meetings
- Assist in cultivating donor prospects, conducting donor research, forming strategies for fundraising appeals, and updating the fundraising calendar
- Prepare and coordinate campaign mailings
- Responsible for data entry, pulling reports, and maintaining Donor Perfect database
- Process donations, including third-party donations, in donor log and donor database
- Oversee donor acknowledgement letters and assist in stewardship of donors
- Assist in planning and coordinating logistics of fundraising/donor events and agency events, including Santa’s Workshop
- When applicable, assist with community outreach, representing the Children’s Home of Stockton at community events
- Respond to donors as needed in a friendly, professional, and timely manner
- Provide clerical support when needed, and any additional clerical tasks as assigned, to help the Development Director ensure the smooth operation of the Development Department
Social Media/Marketing
- Create a content calendar and manage social media platforms including campaigns; develop strategies to increase traffic, and create a strong digital presence
- Monitor, analyze and respond to website and social media analytics
- Manage Constant Contact and create and coordinate email marketing campaigns and outreach efforts while ensuring content, design, and layout of emails are optimized and mobile-friendly
- Assist with design and development of content for marketing and promotional materials including communication with vendors
- Assist with content creation for CHS website.
- Take photos at CHS events
- When applicable, work with Development Director to coordinate public media relations
- Create marketing packets for donors/visitors
- Uphold branding standards of agency
General
- Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children, youth and families served by CHS
- Keep supervisor informed, on a regular basis, of activities, progress and concerns
- Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with CHS staff
- Responsible for being knowledgeable of and adhering to all personnel and other agency policies, including sensitivity of nature of population served by CHS and confidentiality of donor information
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of CHS

- B.A. or equivalent degree in humanities or social services
- 2 years’ experience in managing Fundraising programs
- Demonstrated experience in management of annual and major gifts campaigns
- Experience in successful grant writing
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Computer literate - (knowledge of Donor perfect software helpful)
- Experience in non-profit sector and knowledge of funding issues
- Experience in marketing and/or public relations, including production of publications and Marketing materials
- Communication/Language: Must demonstrate skills in communicating and positively relating to students, fellow employees, interns, contractors, and business contacts. Must possess advanced ability to read, write and understand English equivalent to a college level
- Computer Skills: Must have strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. Specific skills in software systems as required by position, such as KaleidaCare

Essential Functions:
- Follow the Trauma Informed Care philosophy when supporting and addressing the needs of the children and families served by CHS
- Manage fundraising program, including design and implementation of annual giving campaign and Major Gifts campaign, planned giving, direct mail solicitation schedule and research and submission of funding proposals
- Provide annual fundraising plan and accompanying departmental budget based on budgetary objectives of organization
- Produce agency communications, brochures, press releases and other public information activities as necessary
- Maintain all social media sites
- Maintain DonorPerfect software and Donor profiles
- Conduct community presentations on Children’s Home of Stockton services
- Design and implement Major Gift’s campaign
- Plan and recruit volunteer committee for Major Gift’s campaign. Provide all support to Committee in preparation for and follow-up on solicitations
- Research and prepare all corporate and foundation grant proposals
- Prepare all Requests for Proposals for government contracts
- Responsible for assigned operational procedures related to performance quality improvement, including:
- Helping the organization meet its quality improvement, evaluation, and reporting requirements
- Contributing to developing outcomes and indicators and setting targets
- Interpreting data
- Applying data to improve practices and outcomes
- Using program and client outcomes data to improve service delivery
- Responsible for being knowledgeable of and for enacting all personnel and other agency policies
- Staff committees and provide monthly quantitative and qualitative progress reports. Includes income and expense monitoring and reconciliation
- Coordinate revenue-generating special events including any Third-Party Fundraisers
- Utilizing graphic design skills and software, design layouts for Agency invitations, programs, etc., and create finished product
- Coordinate development and maintenance of Agency website and Facebook page
- Coordinate/collaborate on Agency special events, i.e., Annual Dinner, staff gatherings, concerts, etc.
- Supervision of Marketing and Development Associate
