The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) open rank Business Services Professional position.

Under the supervision of the Director of Finance & Administration, this position is responsible for supporting the financial and operational functions of the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM). This position will oversee day-to-day financial management of CCPM core funding sources, including providing monthly financial status reports to center directors; monitoring expenses on accounts; and processing journal entries and payroll expense transactions as needed. Additionally, this position will assist with budgeting, financial tracking mechanisms, and procurement oversight for the CCPM. With a high amount of autonomy, this position will assist in developing tools, reports, and dashboards to oversee the financial health and stability of the Center. This position will provide guidance and updates on fiscal and procurement policy to other staff members across all administrative units. This role will contribute to process improvement and business infrastructure to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of CCPM.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and Finance:

  • Prepares monthly budget reconciliations and reports utilizing A2E, CU-Data, and other data sources and systems. Builds new financial reporting tools, including custom reports and dashboards for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates monthly budget meetings with directors and the DFA, preparing agendas, presenting financial reports and dashboards, identifying trends, and making recommendations.
  • Assists in the development of annual budgets, including State, Auxiliary, gift accounts, and other fund types.
  • Prepares and processes Journal Entries (JEs), Payroll Expense Transfers (PETs), and funding distribution updates in compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a central workbook for tracking and managing funding distributions for CCPM staff, faculty, and partners.
  • Prepares and submits requests for new Speedtypes and budget adjustments, as requested by the DFA.
  • Drafts service center cost studies and maintains written processes and procedures to ensure compliant activities.
  • Calculates, prepares, and submits invoicing related to service center activities and other billable revenue agreements. Follows up as necessary to ensure timely payment.
  • Maintains central database for tracking of all financial agreements, performs monthly reconciliations, and follows up as required.
  • Calculates additional pay for DFA approval. Prepares and submits HCM entries for payment, when requested.
  • Responds to requests for information; researches financial data, troubleshoots discrepancies, and identifies the need for journal entries or other corrective adjustments.

Purchasing and Procurement:

  • Serve as the departmental procurement and contract manager; being the liaison between 3rd party vendors, the Center, and the Procurement Service Center. Act as a resource to staff and faculty on purchasing activities and provide direct training as necessary.
  • Processes purchasing transactions in CU Marketplace such as: purchase orders, payment vouchers, INs, and a variety of other instruments.
  • Monitors and manages PO encumbrances to ensure accurate reporting on financial liabilities.
  • Performs an initial review of all expense reports and p-card transactions prior to DFA approval.
  • Interprets purchasing and procurement rules. Updates internal procurement processes based on new/updated guidelines and procedures.
  • Reviews CCPM travel pre-approval requests to validate funding availability and advise travelers on CU rules and requirements for business travel.

Business Administration:

  • Recommends changes, and initiates activity to improve and streamline internal processes and procedures to provide time savings, cost savings, and facilitate effective operations.
  • Assists with drafting, executing, and implementing memorandums of understanding and other agreements with CCPM partners. Tracks expiration dates and identifies when renewals are required.
  • Maintains an organized centralized file system for all CCPM business and financial documentation.
  • Contributes to teamwide activities, such as space management, annual retreat planning, and support for other special events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Professional:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least one (1) year of professional level experience in a role with accounting, budgeting, or financial management responsibilities.

Senior Professional:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least two (2) years of professional level experience in a role with accounting, budgeting, or financial management responsibilities.

Principal Professional:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, public administration, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • At least three (3) years of professional level experience in a role with accounting, budgeting, or financial management responsibilities.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large complex public institution, higher education, healthcare, or health sciences center environment.
  • Experience with University systems, including finance and analytics software (A2E, CU-Data, mFIN, PowerBI, Marketplace, HCM, Smartsheet).
  • Familiarity with various business compliance needs (HIPAA, NIH).

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of standard accounting procedures.
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Excel.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The hiring range for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Professional: $54,383 to $69,175

Senior Professional: $58,793 to $74,784

Principal Professional: $67,611 to $86,001

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
