The Faculty of Education

HKU has been involved in teacher education since 1917, and the Faculty of Education was established in 1984. The Faculty of Education is forward-looking and world leading, ranking fifth globally in Education (THE 2023). It has assumed an important role in educational research and professional training as a major provider of teacher education programmes and has contributed significantly to education policy and development in Hong Kong with its strong expertise in policy analysis and curriculum development. The Faculty was also the first in Hong Kong to offer degree programmes that train speech therapists and audiologists for the local community. The Position

Applications are invited for appointment as Professor in Speech-Language Pathology in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 522577), to commence on January 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. It is expected that the appointment will be made on tenure terms, although it may be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders, and must demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarship and research, including an established track record in publication and external grant funding; keen interest in collaboration across disciplines; outstanding academic leadership capabilities; and a strong commitment to mentoring students and early career researchers. Preference will be given to those with clinical qualification and/or clinical experience in speech-language pathology, who are fluent in Cantonese or Putonghua and literate in written Chinese.

The appointee will be expected to teach mainly in the speech-language pathology programme, and contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary efforts. He/She will also lead and contribute actively in collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives in research and knowledge exchange, mentor and nurture the next generation of scholars and researchers, supervise research postgraduate students, and assume high-level service/administrative responsibilities.

This is an open specialism position. Applications in any area of speech-language pathology are welcome, but an expertise in clinical intervention of speech-language pathology, tele-medicine, clinical simulation, and/or speech-language pathology scholarship of teaching and learning would be an advantage. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment on fixed-term contract will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
