Job Title:  Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (Open Rank)

Position #00813171 – Requisition #30774

Job Summary:

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine Campus (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/anesthesiology ) is seeking applicants to fill an open rank tenure track faculty position in the areas of neuroscience and neuropharmacology. The research of the applicant should emphasize molecular and cellular mechanisms of nervous system function that are broadly related to new drugs and therapies to treat neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including pain, depression, anxiety, and addiction. We seek applicants whose research would complement existing strengths in studying the regulation of neurotransmitter receptors, ion channels, kinase and phosphatase signal transduction, and gene expression in control of neuronal activity and synaptic plasticity. We encourage applicants from individuals who would thrive in a collaborative and interdisciplinary scientific environment that includes anesthetic mechanisms and toxicity, brain ischemia, cardiovascular disease, and pain research.

This recruitment will be in conjunction with the NeuroTechnology Center (NTC) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/neurotechnologycenter ) . One of the central missions of the NTC is to recruit faculty whose research is focused on developing, adapting, and implementing novel technologies to study nervous system function (both basic and translational). In this search we are seeking applicants who either use, or develop, cutting-edge molecular and cellular approaches, imaging methods, tools, sensors or probes, genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analysis, and modern immunology to study nervous system function in vitro , ex vivo and/or in vivo . The research of the applicant should emphasize molecular, cellular or circuit mechanisms that are broadly related to understanding human nervous system or associated diseases, actions of existing drugs, or the development of new drugs or therapies to treat neurological or neuropsychiatric disorders.

The Department of Anesthesiology is deeply committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion both within the department and the university. We encourage applications from all individuals who would thrive in a collaborative and collegial scientific environment. Applicants should also be enthusiastic about teaching and serving as research mentors in graduate training programs such as the Neuroscience Graduate Program (https://www.cuanschutz.edu/graduate-programs/neuroscience/home ) and the Pharmacology Graduate Program (https://www.cuanschutz.edu/graduate-programs/pharmacology/home ).

Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD degree and appropriate and sufficient post-doctoral experience to establish and/or maintain an independent research program competitively funded by extramural grant support. The department offers outstanding resources to support new faculty, including competitive salary and start-up support, junior faculty mentoring and guidance, well-supported core facilities and a strong collegial neuroscience research environment on campus.
