Job Summary

Under general direction, performs complex research and experimentation following established protocols; assists in the rapid fabrication and evaluation of project prototypes; assists with research projects and may perform independent research; may perform various clerical and editorial duties, depending on the needs of the projects; assists in compiling, processing, and analyzing user and hardware data. The responsibilities of this position primarily includes study design, planning, reporting, and organization; study experimentation with human subjects and benchtop testing of hardware prototypes; and data analysis for engineering research projects.

Job Duties

  • Assists with research projects; performs independent research; plans, designs, and implements research protocols; advises undergraduate and graduate students on proper study design, planning, and analysis.

  • Determines inclusion/exclusion of participants; conducts research studies on- and off-site; maintains excellent records for IRB and annual grant reports.

  • Compiles, processes and analyzes data; documents research procedures and results; files and maintains records; inputs and retrieves data using microcontrollers and computers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient understanding of standard statistical practices and analysis methods.

  • Proficient in all facets of human subject studies

  • Proficient in at least R or IBM SPSS for statistical analysis.

  • Proficient user of technology, such as mobile devices, computers, and related hardware.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Practical knowledge of programming, especially at the microcontroller level (e.g. Arduino) and tablet level (e.g. Android).

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to tend to details.

  • Ability to maintain records and hardware inventory.

  • Ability to operate a personal computer.

  • Ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in standard study planning and practice.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in Engineering, Psychology, or related field.
