Job Summary:

The Pelanda laboratory, located in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is recruiting a motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on a project aimed to investigate mechanisms that lead to the generation of insulin-specific self-reactive B cells and autoantibodies in type 1 diabetes patients. The project utilizes a variety of single cell techniques on human and humanized mouse models samples with the goal of uncovering novel therapeutic targets. The candidate should have expertise in immunology and/or cell biology. The successful candidate will work with the principal investigator to develop the research project and prepare presentations and manuscripts

Key Responsibilities:

Research

  • Pursue research goals with the principal investigator. Responsible for all aspects of planning, developing, operating, recording, and reporting of assigned research projects. Participates actively in designing, developing, and executing a wide variety of experimental investigations with considerable independence on a day-to-day basis. The fellow will regularly meet with the principal investigator to make progress on these objectives.
  • Has or acquires the skills necessary to accomplish research goals including, but not limited to, techniques in immunology (flow cytometry, ELISA, cell sorting), molecular biology (DNA and RNA isolation, cloning, PCR), biochemistry (expression and purification of monoclonal antibodies), and in vivo mouse work (injection, blood collection, organ harvesting).
  • Analyzes research data and organizes data in figures and graphs.
  • Maintains and update notebooks, organizes and records research data, maintains a neat and orderly laboratory workspace and laboratory equipment, and generally performs as a good lab citizen.
  • Participates regularly in departmental seminars, journal clubs, research in progress presentations, and lab meetings.
  • Collaborate with other lab members, trains and advice laboratory student workers, medical, or graduate students, professional research assistants, or other laboratory personnel in the lab, as assigned by the principal investigator

Research Data Publications

  • Prepares research data, figures, and graphs for presentations at scientific meetings, publications, and/or grant applications.
  • Writes and generate figures for scientific manuscripts.
  • Meets regularly with principal investigator to present research progress, review research data, troubleshoot, and plan future experiments.
  • Presents data in more formal settings including lab meetings, departmental research in progress presentations, journal clubs, and national and international conferences, meetings, or workshops.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD degree in immunology, cell biology, or a related field prior to starting this position. Candidates in the final stages of completing their doctoral level degree are eligible to apply.
  • Prior experience with flow cytometry. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Published work in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in team.
  • Experience in processing mouse and/or human cells and tissues.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and analysis of flow cytometry data.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$56,484 to $60,500 

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
