JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a candidate for a Research Technologist 1 for an NIH funded Research Technologist position to perform computational analysis towards understanding neurodevelopmental disorders is available in Professor Santhosh Girirajan’s lab . Duties will include working with other laboratory members to analyze next-generation sequencing data generated from a large cohort of families with neurodevelopmental disease, and integrate genomic and patient clinical data to capture genes and genetic interactions related to neurodevelopmental phenotypes. This research technician will collaborate with Dr. Girirajan, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, and groups at other institutions to run bioinformatics pipelines, interpret experimental results, and prepare reports of research for presentation or publication.

Education and Experience

This position will be filled as a Level 1 and require a Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, bioinformatics, or related fields plus 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Fluency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, Bash, R, C/C++, Perl or Java is required. Proficiency with high performance computing, working knowledge of version control methods such as Git and ization/virtualization tools such as Docker is desired, but applicants will receive necessary training on relevant bioinformatics software in the lab. Applicants should also have a strong motivation to learn computational and genomic approaches towards understanding human disease.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of re-funding. Applications must be submitted electronically.
