Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in chemistry or closely related field.  Experience with synthetic organic chemistry and analytical chemistry background.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of relevant biochemistry and radiochemistry.  Experience producing radiopharmaceuticals. Experience with Positron Emission Tomography research.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will join PET research core at the Departments of Psychiatry and Chemistry at Stony Brook University. Primarily, the incumbent will conduct research in the development of new radiopharmaceuticals, radiochemistry methodology and translation of lead agents for biomedical imaging. The incumbent will also participate in ongoing radiochemistry procedures for current clinical research studies, including production, quality control and metabolite analysis. The successful candidate will design and develop small organic molecules amenable to incorporation with carbon-11 or fluorine-18 for use in PET neuroimaging and translation of new molecular imaging probes into human research. The incumbent will be a valuable member of the team and gain experience in all stages of PET radiotracer development from radiotracer design to preclinical and clinical evaluation to data interpretation. There will be an opportunity to work with both academic and industry collaborators and to gain experience communicating with regulatory authorities such as the FDA. This position requires a Ph.D. degree, with a solid synthetic organic chemistry and analytical chemistry background, with excellent communication skills (demonstrated command in both speaking and writing English). Knowledge of relevant biochemistry and radiochemistry is a plus.
SBU has two radiochemistry facilities: the
Kavita and Lalit Bahl Molecular Imaging Laboratory in the recently constructed Medical Arts and Research Translation building (MART) and the FERM laboratory , both designed specifically for the PET chemistry program, equipped with state-of-the-art radiochemistry instruments and a cyclotron. The Post-Doctoral Associate will have opportunities to access these facilities and obtain hands-on radiopharmaceutical cGMP production experience.

Duties:

     Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of radiopharmaceutical chemistry.

     Clinical research radiopharmaceutical production-related activities, including syntheses, quality assessment, metabolite analysis and related activities.

     Participate/assistant in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.

     Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.

     Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
