Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU), the Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH), and the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) of Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) has an opening for a full-time Endowed Chair of Mood Disorders, Mood Specialty Program Director within the PMHI/CHCO, and faculty Psychologist within the DCAMH/DOP at CU.

The CU DCAMH, PMHI, and CHCO are combining to transform children’s mental health care in Colorado, building a coordinated system, grounded in collaboration and partnership, that provides all children high-quality, evidence-based, youth- and family-centered care through an ambitious and comprehensive strategic plan. As part of this transformative work, we are creating comprehensive, evidence-based, outpatient specialty care programs, including a Mood Disorders Program. We are looking for a psychologist to join our efforts in becoming a national leader in the assessment and treatment of pediatric mood disorders. The psychologist who is awarded this $2.5M Endowed Chair/Program Director will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and delivery of innovative, evidence-based, world class clinical care for all youth and families served in the outpatient mood specialty program in the PMHI/CHCO.  

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Administrative Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the PMHI Clinical Director, Division Leadership, and other Program Directors to design and implement evidence-based clinical programming for mood disorders
  • Collaborate with the PMHI Clinical Director, Division Leadership, and other Program Directors to coordinate and collaborate on initiatives, projects, and processes within and across programs
  • Collaborate with the PMHI Clinical Director to set standards of practice within the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program
  • Collaborate with PMHI and Divisional Leadership in programmatic/clinic operations, tactical planning, and regulatory efforts
  • Lead efforts to monitor and maintain fidelity to standards of practice and the clinical model of the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of clinical services in the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program to ensure effectiveness of care being provided
  • Lead quality improvement activities in the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program
  • Coordinate and conduct high-quality research in the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program 

Clinical Care Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical care to patients and families seen in PMHI clinical services
  • Collaborate with internal and external providers involved in a patient’s care to coordinate on the treatment plan and progress
  • Provide clinical consultation for complex cases
  • Conduct psychological assessment and/or functional assessments with patients, as appropriate. Use results of assessments to inform development of individualized treatment plans and/or behavior plans, as needed 

Other Responsibilities/All Faculty Requirements

  • Contribute to the DOP teaching and scholarship in ways consistent with the expectations of CU faculty, advancing the standing of the Department
  • Engage in service to the department, hospital, and local/regional/national organizations
  • Maintain eligibility for CU faculty appointment

Supervision Received

The Mood Specialty Program Director reports to the PMHI Clinical Director, Dr. Jessica Hawks, with matrixed reporting to the PMHI Chief of Psychology, Dr. Bruno Anthony, for mentorship.  

Supervision Exercised

The Mood Specialty Program Director will not supervise (e.g., hire, terminate, discipline, and approve leave) other employees. The position will provide clinical supervision as follows:

  • Provide clinical supervision to clinical care team
  • Provide in-vivo modeling and coaching of clinical team members to support and enhance clinical care provided
  • Provide ongoing training to clinical care team to ensure fidelity to clinical model
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to mental health trainees rotating through the Outpatient Mood Disorders Program
  • Lead a weekly clinical team meeting

Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship, and must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Senior Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship, and must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Assistant Professor:

  • 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship, and must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Professor:

  • 7+ years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved doctoral training program, including an APA-approved internship, and must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D.  

Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks):

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience following completion of a postdoctoral fellowship that includes clinical and administrative responsibilities, preferably focused on pediatric mood disorders
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Experience working in an APA-accredited training program.
  • Preference will be given to those who are eager to engage in all aspects of the academic mission (clinical, teaching, scholarship, and service).
  • Eligible for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Clinical expertise in flexibly providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, and consultation to youth with mood disorders and their families
  • Demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical programming in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to convene stakeholders and lead a change management process
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and families
  • Knows and applies best practices in diversity and inclusion during interactions with patients, families, providers, and other team members
  • Ability to provide effective supervision to mental health trainees and consultation with other mental health professionals
  • Knowledge of research and quality improvement methodology, as well as the ability to independently conduct research and/or quality improvement projects

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor: $105,000 to $120,000

Associate Professor: $130,000 to $145,000

Professor: $175,000 to $205,000  

This position is eligible for an administrative leadership stipend that can range from $6,000 to $9,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
