Position Summary

This Assistant Director position is a full-time exempt position in the Planning, Institutional Effectiveness and Research Department (PIR). This position is responsible for supporting the college in improving institutional effectiveness processes, specifically leading projects and designing analyses that respond to internal and external needs for educational effectiveness research, program assessment assistance, and program and regional accreditation. With minimal supervision, this position is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and relevant data to internal and external constituencies (including county, state, and federal agencies as well as program and institutional accreditors).

In alignment with PIR priorities, the Assistant Director completes all work with a student-centered and proactive focus ensuring data integrity while providing data literacy. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of PIR and will supervise the Research Analyst I and II position(s) as well as Student Assistant(s).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Serve as liaison and provides necessary support for the college’s organizational effectiveness, planning, accreditation, evaluation, and program assessment activities.

  • Anticipate questions through review of data, information, and research and policy studies, including those related to institutional, state, national, and international conversations around higher education.

  • Provide leadership and direction to PIR Team to complete all federal and state reporting (maintaining timelines, requirements, internal communication, and cross-division project management when needed):
    • Annual IPEDS reports
      • https://surveys.nces.ed.gov/ipeds/public/data-collection-schedule
    • Annual MHEC regulatory reports
      • https://data.mhec.state.md.us/mac_community_college_calendar.asp
    • All formal communication to/from IPEDS and MHEC.
    • Completion of regulatory and ad hoc MACC reports.

  • Triage and support internal standard and ad hoc reporting in support of the PIR Department.
  • Responsible for the overseeing the creation, maintenance, and updates of CROA reports (eg: Credit Daily Enrollment Report, Weekly Non-credit Enrollment Report):
    • Ensure that CROA reports are being used in the most efficient way to meet both the requirements of the state as well as supporting transformational data exchange within the college (eg: ATD Annual Report, Distance Education Report).

  • Efficiently utilize analysis software such as MS Excel, Tableau, and Power BI to prepare and analyze data and to prepare tables and graphs for user-friendly reports and presentations.

  • Responsible for the annual cycle of Non-Academic Department Reviews.

  • In collaboration with other departments across the campus, provide training and coaching related to the use of data, analysis, and information to inform decision making.

  • Oversee the timely publication of internal data reports (Fact Book, Student Characteristics, etc.) as well as maintenance and updates of internet and intranet web pages.

  • Serve on search committees.

  • Represent PIR on numerous internal councils, committees, task forces, and workgroups as appropriate (eg: ISSC).

  • Maintain active membership and networking in the following professional organizations: Association for Institutional Research, North East Association for Institutional Research, Maryland Community College Research Group, etc. taking on a leadership role when appropriate.

  • Attend and present at federal, state, and local level meetings, seminars, and conferences to promote CSM as well as participate in challenging professional development.


Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related work as required.

 

Minimum Education and Training

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area relating to higher education or educational research required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three years’ experience in higher education setting dealing with outcomes assessment, accreditation, or state and/or federal reporting.
