Job Summary:

This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE) at the rank of Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr. PRA) at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.  

The Center for Bioethics and Humanities is entering an exciting new phase of growth and is greatly expanding our research enterprise though the hiring of new faculty, adding research support staff, developing an empirical research-focused post-doctoral training program, and expanding our educational offerings in the areas of research methods, research ethics and academic scholarship.

The Center for Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Colorado is seeking a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistants (PRA) focused on the support of empirical research in bioethics. This position is responsible for supporting research-related efforts and activities under the supervision of the faculty at the CBH.  Competitive candidates will be detail-oriented and highly organized with an interest or background in bioethics. Competitive candidates are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic and administrative functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing research findings in bioethics. Work will be performed fully independently.  

Key Responsibilities:

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Participate in existing funded grants;
  • Engage in multidisciplinary scholarly activities consistent with the mission of the CBH and the University of Colorado;
  • Prepare and present your current and future research in high impact journals and at conferences;
  • Provide mentorship to research staff as appropriate;
  • Participate in the group’s academic and operational meetings.
  • Manage both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Edit manuscripts for journal format requirements and submitting manuscripts or reports for publication in conjunction with investigators.

The work of our research team focuses on important contemporary issues in bioethics and health policy including: conflicts of interest in medicine, medical aid in dying, bias in research, ethical issues in genetics research, the use of novel monoclonal antibodies in COVID-19, return to sport after injury, the use of artificial intelligence in health care, community engagement and disability-related healthcare disparities. Our research methods span the spectrum of traditional health services research methodologies including, but not limited to, qualitative methods, survey research, secondary data analyses, synthesis /meta methods, quasi-experimental methods and clinical trials.

 Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • Master's degree with a focus on ethics, epidemiology, health policy, public policy, public health, health services research, rehabilitation sciences, or other relevant fields. 
  • One (1) year professional level work experience in research or health services such as behavioral science, public health, or health services research  
  • Three to five years working with the communications disability community

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in audiology or speech-language pathology
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of communication disabilities
  • Experience and interest in bioethics, disability healthcare equity, health services research, and dissemination and implementation sciences
  • Track record of publications in medical journals.
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis, including secondary data analyses
  • Success with the competitive grants process;
  • Expertise in working through problems systematically and cooperatively with colleagues and implementing agreed solutions;
  • Commitment to contributing to a diverse and equitable community;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comfortable working with patients, caregivers/family members, clinicians, and community partners
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail with excellent oral and competent written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite
  • Team-oriented and able to work well in multidisciplinary teams, as well as self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work both in person and remotely on multi-disciplinary teams.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$80,000 to $90,000  

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
