Postdoctoral Scholar – Research Associate

The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar-Research Associate to study brain tumor biology in the Modrek Laboratory.

Preference will be given to those with a track-record of problem solving, willingness to work in a team-based environment, good communication skills, and strong publication record.

A Ph.D. with laboratory experience is required. The candidate must be well versed in, or able to learn, a wide variety of mammalian cell biology and molecular biology techniques, including, but not limited to, advance tissue culture, sequencing library preparation (ChIP-seq, HiC, DNA-seq, RNA-seq, etc.), genetic manipulation of cells, and microscopy. Proficiency with computer programs (or ability to learn), electronic lab notebooks, statistics, word processing, and image analysis is required. At the discretion of the post-doctoral scholar, this position could potentially involve rodent surgery, advanced microscopy, bioinformatics, and handling of patient specimens (such as blood or tumor tissue) in the laboratory.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will receive ample one-on-one mentoring by the head of the laboratory (PI) to not only meet their scientific objectives, but also their long-term career objectives which may include future positions in industry (biotech, pharma), academia, or healthcare.

The annual base salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate Minimum Experience: 0-1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods. Background in computer programming is recommended but not required.
