Job Description

Job Duties
1. Teach courses assigned by Dean of Teaching & Learning. Teaching load will vary and can include regular and non-traditional classes/assignments, including classes during the day, evenings, weekends, on-line, at learning resources center (LRC), and on other MGCCC campuses. Classes shall be met when scheduled and for entire period of time scheduled.
2. Work with the school chair, as directed, on annual goals and objectives, strategic initiatives, standards and measures, student learning outcomes (SLO), etc.
3. Work closely with the school chair in the continued evaluation and improvement of sociology curricula. Update syllabi annually.
4. Maintain a familiarity with LRC services available to students and make recommendations for LRC improvements via the school chair.
5. Strive to better understand students’ learning styles and work to improve teaching methods, content, and value of each course taught.
6. Provide students with course objectives and course outlines that have been approved by the department chair and the Dean of Teaching & Learning.
7. Perform extracurricular duties assigned by the school chair and college administration.
8. Attend all college, division, school, and general faculty meetings.
9. Serve on college committees as assigned by college administration.
 

10. Serve as a sponsor for student groups and clubs as requested by school chair and college administration.
11. Establish, post, and maintain office hours as directed by college policy.
12. Advise students assigned by developing a familiarity with requirements in sociology curricula at senior institutions and making recommendations to students.
13. Coordinate classroom work assignments for students by utilizing materials and services available in the Learning Resource Center.
14. Counsel with students and refer to appropriate campus counselors as needed.
15. Work to maintain proper public relations with the community.
16. Meet employee development units as required by college policy.
17. Use diverse instructional methodology including audio-visual, computer software, and other technological means.
 

18. Actively recruit students for the college.
19. Perform other duties as requested by the school chairperson and college administration.

Job Description
Full-time and part-time incumbents primary responsibility is the teaching of courses in associate degree, diploma, or certificate programs. Teaching faculty must follow established policies and procedures and are encouraged to participate in appropriate organizations and activities.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a
minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in sociology.
(M2) Ability to teach college-level sociology courses (Intro to Sociology, Marriage & Family, Social Problems, etc.).
(M3) Teaching experience.
(M4) Effective written and interpersonal communications skills.
(M5) Proficient user of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), Microsoft Office Suite, and other educational technologies.

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Full-time community college and/or college-level teaching experience.
(D2) Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
(D3) Online teaching experience.
