Job Description

The Cogan Laboratory at the University of Southern California (USC) Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the mechanisms of polyketide biosynthesis. The selected individual will use biochemical and biophysical techniques, including single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM), to address key unsolved problems related to polyketide synthase architecture and catalysis.

Available Instrumentation: USC is equipped with the necessary hardware and software infrastructure to perform cutting edge cryo-EM research. The Core Center of Excellence in Nano Imaging (CNI) at USC houses two cryogenic transmission electron microscopes: a Thermo Scientific Titan Krios G3i and a Thermo Scientific Glacios, both equipped with direct electron detectors, along with a Thermo Scientific Vitrobot plunge-freezing apparatus and other necessary tools for cryo-EM grid preparation. Computing resources for cryo-EM data analysis are available through USC's Center for Advanced Research Computing.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Chemical Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field. All qualified candidates will be considered, although preference will be given to those with prior experience in protein purification, analytical biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology, chemical biology, and/or microbiology.

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $67,500.  When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
