Education Manager


Reports To: Education Director
Location: San Francisco
Compensation: $75,000-80,000 per year, based on credentials and experience

Position Summary:

The Education Manager, in partnership with the Director of Education, will oversee and support Family Connections’ (FCC) early childhood and out-of-school time programs. They will successfully manage multiple concurrent teams and education programs across two sites, and provide oversight of FCC’s education interns, teaching fellows, volunteers, and youth workers.

The Education Manager will be a self-directed and collaborative leader who guides individuals and teams to do their best work, holds themselves and other staff accountable for programs’ success, and furthers FCC’s mission of helping children and families thrive. This role is best suited for a skilled manager with strong problem-solving and planning skills, who can hold both the greater organizational vision and the individual program goals in their work.

Primary Responsibilities:

Program Oversight and Implementation

  • Oversee Family Connections’ Pre-K, Homework Club, Summer Academic Enrichment, and Fellowship programs
  • Provide regular coaching and supervision of teachers, volunteers, and interns through employee work plans, program/staff evaluations, monitoring of children’s progress, and oversight of child-centered curriculum
  • Assist teachers in planning and executing parent/caregiver orientation meetings and family events
  • Support Lead Teachers with coordination and scheduling of substitute teachers for work coverage needs; step in to provide classroom teaching/coverage as needed
  • Ensure effective project management, supervision, and conflict resolution within education teams
  • Ensure all programs support children’s learning and cover a spectrum of learning areas including language and literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, personal and social development, and physical development
  • Ensure families are contacted promptly regarding enrollment questions, programs, concerns, and feedback
  • Work closely with mental health consultant and family support staff for coordination of care for participants

Program Evaluation and Compliance

  • Ensure programs comply with licensing and funder requirements
  • Compile and manage data and program narratives for grant reports, funder databases, and FCC reporting
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation and documentation, maintain organized files for each participant following agency standards to meet licensing and grant requirements

Partnerships, Outreach, and Program Improvement

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local schools, libraries, contractors, and community partners
  • Work closely with staff to conduct outreach and ensure enrollment meets the requirements of licensing and funders
  • Represent the agency as needed at community meetings, outreach events, funder meetings, etc.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, work events, consultations, etc.
  • Perform other duties as needed or requested by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 24 ECE/CD units including core courses (child/human growth and development; child/family/community or child/family relations; and programs/curriculum), 6 units administration, and 2 units supervision required; Masters’ degree in ECE or Child Development preferred
  • Site Supervisor Permit or Director Permit required
  • 2+ years of experience in educational program management and staff supervision; experience overseeing mentorship/fellowship programs preferred
  • 4+ years of experience working with children and their parents/caregivers in a multicultural setting
  • Experience with group facilitation on topics related to preventive health, nutrition, disease prevention, physical and mental health, and injury prevention
  • Experience in curriculum development, project design, partnership building, and program evaluation including DRDPs
  • Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills and manage responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner in compliance with agency policies, standards, and licensing
  • Ability to perform duties with a creative, team-building, problem-solving, and cooperative approach
  • Stellar verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required; experience with database useful
  • Bilingual in English and Cantonese or English and Spanish strongly preferred

Work Environment:

This position will work from both our Portola and Excelsior centers. The Education Manager operates in a professional classroom and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and on occasion may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
