Job Summary
In 2011, Professor Yury Gogotsi and colleagues discovered a new family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, dubbed MXenes. The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute (http://nano.materials.drexel.edu) is now a diverse team of almost 50 researchers investigating the types, qualities, and applications of MXenes. The group is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate who will work on developing new materials and explore the various applications of MXenes.
This position requires a strong experimentalist with demonstrated experience in nanomaterials synthesis and characterization. The selected candidate should have a background in chemistry, material sciences, or a related field.
Essential Functions
- Research involving synthesis and chemical modification of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes)
- Write reports and manage research projects
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate students
- Present and write on scientific results internally and externally (work is frequently published in high-profile, peer-reviewed journals)
- Be a motivated, self-starter, able to work independently
- Participate creatively in refining program directions
Required Qualifications
- PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science, Chemistry, or closely related field
- 2+ years working in a chemistry or materials lab
Preferred Qualifications
- Good oral and written communication skills and be ability to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues
- Good leadership
- Synthesis experience
- Experience with microscopy and spectroscopy techniques
Physical Demands

- Typically standing, walking
- Lifting demands ≤ 25lbs
