About the Lab:

This postdoctoral fellow will join the dynamic laboratory team of Associate Professor and microbiologist Jennifer R. Honda, PhD. The Honda lab is globally recognized for its dedication to learning about the environmental, host, and microbial factors driving the emergence and pathogenesis of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary disease. The major emphases of the lab include understanding the environmental factors that contribute to NTM persistence, the host immune responses to NTM infections, and elucidating the NTM-specific virulence factors that facilitate survival. Job Summary:

The Lab Manager serves as a liaison between the assigned lab staff, principal investigators, and departments.  The position develops and leads an effective lab staff by fostering the long-term learning of the team and shows effective communication with the PI.

The position will oversee the daily running of the lab, train lab staff, maintain and present data in a formal setting and in lab meetings with other staff, co-author publications and act as a gatekeeper for laboratory samples, database, and biological resources.  The Lab Manager builds relationships between research and the community.

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

·         Serves as a liaison between lab, principal investigators, and departments.

·         Ensures success within lab and research initiatives.

·         Monitors lab and staff safety compliance.

·         Plans, organizes, trains, and supervises the work of laboratory researchers.

·         Supports and advises students, fellows, and temporary personnel.

·         Presents data in formal settings and lab meetings.

·         Co-authors publications.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Required Education / Experience:

·         Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in related field required.

·         5 years of laboratory experience.

·         A combination of education and work experience will be considered.

·         Superb skills in identifying genetic variants (SNPs, insertions, deletions, copy number variants, structural variants) of bacteria (NTM) to study genetic causes of disease, mapping large volumes of sequence information to known genomes or de novo assembly of sequence reads for unknown genomes, and the ability to annotate genomic variation, and then compute their contribution and association to the process of interest are preferred.
