What W e Want

The Assistant Research Scientist will be responsible for carrying out high-quality research in an ethical manner, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and writing manuscripts for publication. This individual will be expected to retain a neat and orderly workspace and keep a detailed, up-to-date laboratory notebook. Participation in group meetings, scientific conferences, and other outlets for researchers will be very important and is expected.

Salary range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Appropriate PhD and relevant research experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Extensive research experience in polymer science, specifically polymerization processes incorporating carbon dioxides and coordinating chemistry

   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Desire to learn new techniques, write manuscripts, train students, and be able to work independently

  • Demonstrated expertise, as evidenced by published work, in directed evolution methodologies

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Carries out high-quality experimental laboratory research work in an ethical manner in the field of analytical chemistry. Schedules experiments on major scientific instruments for research.

  • Data Analysis: Keeps a detailed and up-to-date laboratory notebook. Assists in analyzing and presenting results from models. Analyzes/interprets data. Participates in analyzing and disseminating data as part of participation in group meetings. Prepares manuscripts, periodic reports, scientific papers/presentations, and grant proposals. Responsible for periodic reporting of experimental observations and results to collaborators and sponsors as well as contributing to scientific publications.

  • Laboratory Assistance: Provides assistance and mentorship to lab members, graduate, and undergraduate students. Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards. Responsible for experiments and maintenance.

  • Meetings and Seminars: Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.  Stays up to date on scientific research via reading literature and performs other duties as assigned.
