Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kyle K. Payne, PhD at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey to conduct research in the biology and immunobiology of cancer within the Rutgers Cancer, Immunology, and Metabolism Center of Excellence (https://www.cinj.org/research/kyle-k-payne-phd ). Research in the Payne lab focuses defining novel stress response pathways in cancer, as well as targeting immune regulatory mechanisms (Science,  2020; Immunity,  2017). Current extramural funded investigations are centered on dissecting novel mechanisms of cellular adaptation and associated metabolic perturbations driven by tumor microenvironmental-induced stress in ovarian cancer.


Highly motivated candidates with experience in cancer biology, cellular stress responses, and metabolism are encouraged to apply. Multi-omic, interdisciplinary, and translational approaches are especially encouraged.

Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to establish an innovative, collaborative research program addressing important and fundamental questions.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Conducts multidisciplinary research in the area of cancer biology especially with detailed knowledge of stress responses, autophagy, metabolism, and chemotherapy/immunotherapy resistance.
  • Prepares written reports of the research experiments.
  • Prepares grant proposals based on the research conducted.
  • Gives oral presentations of the research.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutgers regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • New or recent PhD degree in a relevant science with a focus on cancer biology and/or immunology.
  • All But Degree candidates may be considered, qualified candidates must be in the process of completing or have finished the training for Ph.D. and/or M.D.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Work Environment

  • Lab environment.
  • Moderate noise.
  • Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases.
  • Universal precautions are mandatory.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
