Job Description

The candidate responsibilities and specific duties will be conducting experiments, writing manuscripts for publication, help mentoring undergraduate students, mosquito colony care and working on grant proposals with the PI in the field of disease vector biology and ecology with a particular focus on the mosquito species, Culex territans. The candidate is expected to maintain a regular work schedule, meet on a weekly basis with the PI to report on recent advancement, to obtain feedback and discuss strategies about experiments, grant submissions etc., help to facilitate lab meetings and journal club on site for the post-docs, graduate students and technicians, keep accurate records of his/her/their work, and make appropriate progress towards publication quality work. The candidate will be highly encouraged to apply for independent postdoctoral fellowships to generate additional funding for their work.

Required Qualifications

PhD in biochemistry, entomology, life sciences, biology or ecology awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of the appointment with a minimum of one year of eligibility remaining; Experience working with disease vector mosquitoes is required; Experience working with amphibians, in particular frogs is required. This includes catching, measuring, taking blood and tissue samples from live animals; Experience with field work is mandatory. A valid driver license is required to reach field sites; The candidate must have extensive experience with mosquito rearing, electrophysiology, chemical ecology, behavior (e.g., olfactometer assays, actometer), virology, molecular biology (e.g., RNA / DNA extraction) and transcriptomics analysis.

Salary Information

$48,000 - 51,092
