  • JOB DUTIES

Description

Under direction of the principal investigators, you will conduct scientific projects related to skeletal muscle dysfunction and fibrosis in cerebral palsy. Carry out experiments using skeletal muscle biopsies, including preparation of muscle biopsies for experiments, tissue sectioning and cell culture. Perform histology studies involving tissue decellularization, immunostaining, and microscopy. Assist in developing lab protocols and troubleshooting problems arising from the research methodologies. Under direction of the principal investigators, provide detailed evaluation of experimental findings and prepare data for presentations and publications. Help teach basic laboratory skills related to preparing buffer solutions, cleaning of glassware and other lab maintenance tasks. Help teach basic laboratory skills related to tissue handling and preparation for standard histology and microscopy. Assist with ordering lab supplies and maintaining and updating lab protocols. Salary Range: $21.38 – $25.15 / hourly



  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

* Ability to recognize and use technical terminology related to muscle anatomy and function. * Ability to use/maintain histological equipment (cryostat, microscopes, imaging software/programs). * Skill in conducting immunostaining procedures (reagent preparation) * Experience in standard biochemical procedures (e.g., accurate pipetting, knowledge of centrifuges). * Ability to communicate effectively. * Working knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety regulations regarding use of chemical and biological substances and their disposal. * Ability to effectively teach technical skills to others. * Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students. * Ability to maintain a clean working environment. * Knowledge of computers, including word processing, spreadsheet, graphics software and literature search methods. * Knowledge to prepare and maintain mammalian tissue cultures. * Knowledge of preparing chemical solutions and buffers. * Ability to maintain accurate inventory of supplies and laboratory instruments. * Ability to prepare samples for analysis using standard methods. * Ability to pass the appropriate UCLA exams for compliance.
