Job Details:

Purpose

Incumbent will be responsible for performing behavioral neurophysiology experiments, analyzing data from behavioral neurophysiology experiments, disseminating knowledge gained from behavioral neurophysiology experiments, and training other lab personnel to perform behavioral neurophysiology experiments. Experiments will be designed to investigate how hippocampal neurons and coordinated populations of hippocampal neurons store, consolidate, and retrieve memory representations in freely behaving rats. The incumbent will also help prepare grant applications and progress reports. The incumbent will also help with general lab management and development and maintenance of lab procedures and protocols in the Colgin Lab for the Department of Neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stereotaxic surgeries on lab rats.

  • Perform behavioral neurophysiology experiments.

  • Analyze behavioral neurophysiology data and write custom analysis code.

  • Perform immunohistochemical analyses of brain tissue.

  • Mentor, train, and supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scientists, and other research staff on behavioral neurophysiology techniques, stereotaxic surgery, immunohistochemistry, and perfusions.

  • Author papers and disseminate findings through publications and scientific presentations.

  • Actively pursue independent extramural funding sources.

  • Assist with general lab management and development of new protocols for advanced lab procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field.

  • Five years of postdoctoral research experience in Neuroscience.

  • Experience writing and publishing papers and at least three publications in high quality journals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience presenting lectures to graduate or undergraduate students in neuroscience.

  • Knowledge about literature of place cells and hippocampal neurophysiology.

  • Experience in behavioral neurophysiology in freely moving rats.

$79,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
